UPD: Timur Faizutdinov dead after puck to the head
Sorry if there’s already a thread on this, just felt like it needed it’s own thread
19 year old MHL player (believe this is Russia’s CHL) Timur Faizutdinov is on life support after taking a puck to the face with a damaged carotid artery, fractured temporal bone and cerebral hemorrhage
Really scary to see as a hockey player and fan
I don’t know how to embed but here is an Instagram link https://www.instagram.com/p/CMbjhJgg...=188022nvrvpi6
Prayers to him and his family
Update, he has passed away. Tweet embedded by tvp2003 below https://mobile.twitter.com/hcSKA_New...604post7782604

Scary stuff. Hope he pulls through.
Have to assume this is going to bring up the mandatory cage conversation.

Doesn't seem to actually hit the face, more like below the helmet, behind/below the ear. Don't know if a cage would have helped.

It'll take someone dying on the mainstage until it's finally done. Just like with the helmet.

That may be correct with the common carotid but not the external.

The ear area seems to be where guys get hit a lot. Probably they turn their head in time?

Phil Hughes an international cricket opener for Australia passed away in 2014 when he turned away from a bouncer that struck him in a similar spot on his neck behind his ear, this caused a vertebral artery dissection that led to a subarachnoid haemorrhage. I’d expect this to probably be the same.
So sad for a young man to lose his life like this, RIP.
Edit: My bad didn’t read the OP properly, different injury.

Very tragic. The best to his family and friends.
I’m honestly surprised this type of thing doesn’t happen more often.

I feel bad for the player that shot the puck at him, it was a fluke but he’ll live with that for the rest of his life. Terrible stuff all around.

Tragic.
The shot didn't even look that bad (compared to a slap shot from the point for example) but it just go to show that if you get hit in the wrong spot, it can do major damage. In this case, worst case scenario.
Gives me pause sometimes when I think about continuing playing beer league. You get some idiot who thinks he's in the Show and takes slap shots from the point into a crowd 5 feet off the ice.

What a tragic ending. Really sad to hear about this as I was hoping by some miracle he'd be able to pull through. Thoughts go out not only to his friends and family, but the player who shot the puck. Obviously not intentional at all and he's got to be devastated.
