Default What ever happened to in-game out-of-town updates?

You'd think with technology today this wouldn't go backwards. Yesterday Montreal-Calgary and Winnipeg-Toronto played at the same time, plus other NHL games. Why are there not in game updates anymore?

They still do them at the world juniors and I hate it when I get spoiled on a game I was going to watch later.

Great question. I really miss them. They added a lot to the atmosphere of the game.

They probably figure that people know what’s going on in the other games they care about already.

Plus just leave it for intermission to do highlight updates.

I think NFL and MLB (obviously) broadcasts still do these.

Nationally yes but I don't think Blue Jays baseball does. You're right, NFL is the obvious one that throws it back to the studio for updates.

They’re putting more ads in there instead.

Seems that way now. I change the channel as soon as the intermission starts. I love the game but I can't stand the canned chit- chat that the producers feel we need to hear about it. I'd rather see more content from the other games around the league and not have to watch it on the 5" screen on my phone.

Three quarters of viewers watching the game have access to a second screen.

It could be due to the fact that there are no fans attending the games live because of COVID, its easier to check other game updates if your stuck at home.

Meh. If they did that we’d just complain that they were talking about Edmonton or Toronto again.

People lose their collective #### if Cassie Campbell talks about the opposition. Can you imagine a GT where she talks about a team not even playing in the game?

When that complaint comes up I’m reminded of HFOil - they constantly complained Drew Remeda always overpraised the opposition, while we always said the opposite.

In the past they would never do that. After the update they would just say Thanks Scott and move on. 1:28 and 2:19 in the video.

Updates would reduce Cassie's air time.

Probably because they didn't want to pay for the extended version of the hnic theme to overlay on all the highlights.

But really...it's just taking advantage of the commercial break for adds.

Oh JFC, is this another Trojan horse for a Cassie Campbell bitch session?

On topic, I am with the poster who may be PVRing a game and doesn’t like it being spoiled

That was a trip down memory lane. Me as a kid at my Grandmas watching playoff hockey and looking forward to the out of town update. It completely teleported me back to the late 80s.

On another angle, I can vividly remember it was always the Whalers for some reason that were part of the update and them losing. Seems that clip is burned in my mind.
