Default Practice Notes Mar 10

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Sam Bennett and Mikael Backlund are on the ice for practice this morning. They both missed yesterday.

Still no Joakim Nordstrom (lower body). #Flames

I have a feeling Sutter may work Stone into the lineup.

I’m keeping count on bag skates. Bennet and Backlund missed the bag skate yesterday . They should have to do double today.

I cant remember the last time I was so excited for the practice notes thread.
Not surprised the lines haven't changed much yet. Sutterwill give them a try under his watch and see who responds to his notes and changes before any major overhauls

I hope Sutter gives Kylington a fair chance. This kids wheels add a different dimension to our breakouts!!

I want to like Kylington, but he does seem to make at least 1 REALLY bad play every game. Could be the fact he doesn't play a whole lot, which does put him in a catch 22 type scenario.

How great is it that Sutter gets to start with 2 days of practice before the 1st game. I expect big things tomorrow night! Plus Montreal plays tonight too in Van.

I hope Sutter can get Backlund's head out of his rear end. He's been one of the worst players so far this year and when he's good he's pretty effective. Couldn't hurt to up his desirability for expansion draft either. Didn't Darryl draft him?

I expect Backlund to be excellent down the stretch because that is the trend with the player. Mediocre to bad first half, 1st line C second half.

I thought I read somewhere that he and his wife are expecting their second child any day now?

Huh?

First for forwards in CF% and xGF% (almost 70%).

Literally bad things don't happen when he's on the ice. Looking at his on ice shooting and save percentage he's just not getting bounces to be under water.

Given how Sutter was talking about shot attempt quantities and suppression I'm guessing he'll tell Backlund to keep doing what he's doing.

Still surprised to see Ritchie there with Bennett back. Even Sutter hinted yesterday that the lines would see changes. Honestly still expect Bennett to move up after today's practice

There have been a lot of plays lately where Backs is standing still/not engaging on the defensive side of the puck when things go bad.

May not show in the stats, but there's been some visible issues with him - which maybe explains the significant difference between his xGF%, xHDGF% and his actual GF% and HDGF%.

It's more than just bad bounces for Backs right now.

Does he truly, though? Any more than any other defenseman on the ice? Or are you actively highlighting his mistakes because of confirmation bias?

Well if that's the case those stats will certainly start to move towards each other. You can't not play well and look like you're playing well in large spurts without being impacted.

Just wish he'd stop taking the silly penalties. He's Bennett lite.
