The Habs have continued to be one of the most inconsistent teams in the CPHL since they started off the season on fire.
Many trades were made to try and right the ship not much has worked for more than a game or two.
Trade talks picked up in a big way and it lead to the GMs favourite player being shipped out.
The Predators wanted Patrick Kane and they were willing to send a big piece of the future to the Habs to land him. The Canadiens acquired the Isles 2021 1st and veteran Zach Parise for Kane and defensemen Victor Mete.
It was tough to lose Kane. But the hope is that the draft pick turns out to be a top 5 pick in this seasons draft.
Kane wasn’t the only star involved in talks as Jack Eichel has been linked to multiple teams.
Eichel has not lived up to the billing during his injury filled tenure in Montreal. He arrived on the IR and struggled upon his return to action. He cycled through line-mates until he found instant chemistry on a line with Lehkonen amd Gallagher. Eichel averaged over 2 points per game during a 6 game span until Gallagher went out with a long term injury. The Habs haven’t been able to find the 3rd piece to that line since.
The Habs aren’t close to a Eichel trade but that can change in an instant and GM Goffie feels there is a 50/50 chance he is dealt before the next game. Once he enters the lineup it is unlikely he is dealt if the Habs can rebound and put together some wins.
The Habs are also in the market to bring in a top pairing D and also to ship out a depth D for help up front or futures.
