English Football (Soccer)
Hi Everyone. I am from London, England and a huge Flames fan!
Ever since my first visit to Calgary i have followed the Flames and even flew out there for the whole post season of 2004.
I just wanted to know if anyone here follows English Soccer and what teams they follow. I am a huge Arsenal fan.
Cheers,
Magic

Ever since going to grad school, I haven't followed sports like I used to. I didn't watch the CFL at all this year, I missed the baseball playoffs for the second year in a row (watched the odd game), don't follow junior like I did in high school and my undergrad. In fact the only team I really follow closely is the Flames, and even then not like I used to. (Mind you I am watching the team play more, or atleast the game's on while I'm doing readings, assignments, etc).
That said I used to follow the evilness known at Man United quite closely, however I must admit their e-mail newsletter still arrives in my inbox and is promptly deleted as I just don't have the time/interest to follow what's going on. I love English Football (aka soccer) I think it's a great sport, and I can't wait for the World Cup (I hope to catch most of it) but don't follow the match play like I used to.
Put me down for ManU, I do have 2 of their jersey's hanging in my closet (one in the Sharp days, and a current Vodafone one) but I don't follow like I used to

Im a huge soccer fan, but I am portguese, so im not a huge fan of the English league, but being as its pretty much the only coverage out here, I do follow it. I dont have a team in the EPL that I support more than the other, I like cheering for the portuguese players be it obviously Ronaldo at Man U, Paulo Ferreira and Carvalho at Chelsea or even Boa Morte at Fulham.
Benfica v Man U in 2 weeks for a spot in the Quarter finals is gonna be a great match.
by the way, Portugal v England at Euro 2004 was a great match huh??.......just joking......had to do it.....probably my favorite match in the last few years

Big Arsenal fan here...Makes Saturday/Sunday mornings interesting since my dad is a liverpool fan.
Wasn't too hapy when they let Viera go off to Juve, but at least he went from my favorite EPL team to my favorite Series A team.
But there are a couple of us Gunner fans here.

Do you know if that match will be televised? I've been doing a bad job of paying attention, what outcomes will get Benfica through?

TSN hasnt announced what game they will televise on Dec 7, but they did televise the first game between these two.
here's the standings,
Villareal on 7 points
Lille on 6
Man U on 6
Benfica on 5
so if Benfica wins, they will have 8 points and it wont matter what the score of the Villlareal-Lille game is.....Benfica cannot get first in the group, but second is there if they win.....if they lose or tie, they are out........The game is in Lisbon which only bodes well for Benfica

Welcome, especially to a fellow gunners supporter! Seems to be quite a few around here...Andrew Ference is well known to be an Arsenal supporter as well...I have to echo Pagal's sentiment..losing Viera was a massive blow to us this season...no one has filled that void...good to have Henry back though..The Premiership looks to be all but sealed up for Chelsea, but hopefully Arsenal can go a bit further in the Champions League this season.

I am a big Tottenham fan and have no problem saying that I absolutely hate Arsenal. I too was mad that Arsenal lost Viera because having that cheap bastard made it all the more easier to hate them

there is always a yid around to bring the mood down :P
just joking mate, a lot of best mates are spurs fans which makes the rivalry even better, mainly because i can win money off them!
losing vieira was a blow for us but with the emergence of van persie as a great player and henry back from injury have given us new confidence and we look great again. just a shame cygan is the worst defender in the whole world!
but man.ure losing keane is a huge blow for them! come on benfica!

I've taken up watching the Premiership in the past 2-3 seasons. It's become a Saturday morning staple-especially last year, when there was no hockey to watch.
Essentially, I'll cheer anyone who's playing against Man U, Arsenal, or Chelsea (although I enjoy talented players like Henry or Duff).
If forced into a corner, I would probably say I support Tottenham or Aston Villa.
