You'd think the Canucks might have learned by now about not giving depth guys term and NTCs.

$ is alright but yeah, don't hand trade protection to a guy like that.

It's real bad especially if he has to be protected in the Seattle draft

I wouldn’t say terrible but I don’t think it’s very good. He tends to disappear a lot in his career and he not exactly lighting it up this year

Not sure why people have issues with protecting him in expansion draft. If you can count to 7 you will find out there is 0 issues with their protect list

It’s not like the expansion draft is 2 years from now too and your not certain of what the roster could look like

Seems pretty irrelevant, since they obviously see him as part of the future, so they would likely protect Pearson anyway?

No movement clauses are standard and expected now. They aren’t bonuses anymore. If you don’t give them one, they will just go somewhere they will. If you want the player, you can’t really say no.

$ value is good.
NMC is bad.
Question is why.

Doesn't look that bad to me, he'll probably be back to 15-20 goals and 35-40 points next year. He doesn't need to be protected in the expansion draft, it's reported to be a NTC only.

I'm not concerned about production as much as where he fits in the line up.

Though there are some reports circling that Jay Beagle's career may be per-maturely over. There's talk that what ever injury he has, will likely keep him out for next season or a large part of next season as well. If that's the case I can't see a guy who was already showing his age making a come back.

I don't follow the team that close, are there 3 better LW's?

3? no.

But our propensity to pay guys in our bottom six 3mil+ is a big part of our cap issue. With Podkolzin being one game away from being North America bound, it seems strange to give the guy he's likely pushing out of the top six more than 3 (Hoglander moves back to his proper left side). But also, it's not so much that he isn't better than Motte or Roussell but rather why spend this money when you can't also get rid of Roussell, who we are going to now pay (the magic number!) to sit in the press box next season.

Interesting. He was one of the forwards who didn't get put on the COVID list. He's scored at a 24 goal pace for them so 3 million-ish isn't too bad.

Hughes is on the COVID list but Pettersson is one of the other forwards who isn't (probably because he was injured when the rest of the team got sick). I wonder if they use this stretch to try to make a deal with him too.

Not a good contract IMO. Guys like this can be picked up cheaper and they grow on trees. I don't understand the NTC or protection either. Will be 29 when next season starts as well. A bit of an unnecessary contract with a team in a similar spot as the Flames and not making the playoffs.

That wouldn’t kick in until after the expansion draft anyways
