Default People Who Don't Swear Are Super Annoying

I've noticed a really strong correlation between me hating somebody's guts and whether or not they swear. People who don't swear and use words like "gosh" or phrases like "shut the front door" or "H - E - Double Hockey Stick" are unbearable every single time.

Like most people, I'm annoyed when somebody swears every second word as that sounds like pure trash, but people who never swear are insufferable and come off as immature, stunted and self-righteous to me. Like, they wear it as a badge of honour that they don't swear, when really there's nothing noble about it - they just end up using less effective language for no reason that has any value whatsoever.

There is also an endless list of articles that indicate people who swear are smarter than those who don't. Anecdotally, I'd have to concur.

Like anything, in moderation, swearing at the right times really gives emphasis to a phase or adds color to a conversation.

People who dont swear at all, and dont use replacement words in place of swear words are ok. But I'm with you, people using gosh, golly, heck, eff, are fakers.

There is a Netflix series on now about swearing with Nick Cage?

I think there is evidence that the swear center of the brain is a different part than the normal language sections.

People that swear can endure more pain, and people with strokes that can't speak normally might be able to swear.

People that swear too much for effect, probably don't really have much to say. Ex. Propaghandi songs.

I saw this topic on the main page - and knew instantly it was Sliver that started it.

The worst part about having a kid was learning how to not casually swear all the goddamn time.

It's ####ing exhausting.

Even worse is when they replace swears with things like "Frick" or "bullpoop".

It means the same thing when you say it. Having different letters there is not going to mean the difference between Heaven and Hell.

I've tried to cut down on the unnecessary swearing. The random peppering of f-bombs for no reason. I just love that f'n word so much though.

I think it's one thing to do it in front of kids. I'm with Sliver on this that it's another to say it like that if everyone is over the age of 12.

Several years ago, my wife and I said we'd try and eliminate profanity so that our children won't pick it up. I don't think that is ####ing happening any time soon.

Used to poke fun at the Mormons in my school all the time about not being able to swear. The ones who got away from it would swear so much they would make a sailor blush.

Sure would be nice if the swear filters on CP were removed.

Haha, yeah they follow the weirdest rules. Like no caffeine. Okayyyyy, and what will happen if you drink caffeine? Guess what, nothing. Stop being a tit, have a coke and say fata. I promise you'll be fine.

I agree with this.

The replacement words shouldn’t be considered less offensive as the intent is the same.

What are people’s thoughts are their kids swearing. I think it should be encouraged at sporting events, when in pain, and for humorous effect.

Agree with OP, disagree with this.

I feel the filter adds even more depth and emphasis on the swear since most times you gotta pause for a sec and think about it.

Plus you get to test boundaries and feel alive.

On this note, you can all thank me.

I am taking credit for this forum removing the word 'Bastard' from the swear filter because of Game of Thrones.

Its not much of a swear. But I like it. It just feels like it has some weight to it.

It's a slippery slope. First your sip a coke, and drop an f bomb, the next thing you know your jaw is on the floor at the peelers, you are steeling credit cards to buy internet porn, get dumped from the football team and kicked out of University.

True story.
