Thank you, Corey Crawford for your last, great hockey performance in eliminating the Edmonton Oilers from making the playoffs.

Corey Crawford is good, but Edmonton is no good.

interesting. Lundqvist and Crawford both leave their teams as UFA and both pretty much retired before playing a game for their new team. So, both finish having only played for one team*.

Wonder if this shifts the goalie market at all for NJD. They probably need at least a backup if they even feel comfortable going with Blackwood as a starter. I think Wedgewood would be their back up right now.

Congrats to Corey, had a great career.

In a lot of ways he was what a lot of people believed Carey Price to be. In terms of overall career numbers (especially advanced metrics) I think Crawford might actually have the better numbers, and of course two cups.

Price had the higher peak, but seems to have had more off seasons. While Crawford was just consistently good his entire career.

Crawford was just one of those ever-present guys who made the saves he was expected to make and a few he had no business making interspersed with very few off-nights.

Playing behind peak Keith and Seabrook probably didnt hurt, but still.

Ahhh this makes me feel old. I remember a bunch of us pre-drinking at a friend's house, as my friend was talking to him on MSN Messenger.

He told us was going to be drafted ahead of Marc-André Fleury in that year's entry draft.

Now he's retiring from the NHL.

Where did the time (and my youth) go?

Crawford (91.8%) ends up retiring with a higher save percentage than Carey Price (91.7%), Pekka Rinne (91.7%). He will also probably end up with a higher save percentage than Henrik Lundqvist.

I hope everything is okay with him and his family.

10 Years is a pretty long NHL Career. Hes got 2 Cups. No Regrets.

In the middle of all this nonsense? I'd hang 'em up too.

Always thought this guy was kind of underrated. As consistent as goalies come, good competitor. Good career.

Hall of fame teammate for sure.

Crawford was always the type of goaltender that would put up unbelievable numbers in the most boring way possible.

Even in junior, every shot would hit his chest and the play would be dead. Watching him play since he was 17 I don't think I've ever seen him make a spectacular high-light reel save. That said, it's because he's always in position and just controlled any rebound.

When 1qqaaz posted how he has a better save percentage over some legends, I thought "yeah that sounds right" despite no one ever talking about him.

Hope all is well with him. He was never my favourite, but that basically boils down to a rivalry in junior.

Wish him all the best, and I'd be super happy for him if he ended up in the hall.

It kind of sounds like he just didn't have the drive to compete at the level he should and he didn't want to disappoint the team or fans.

I have a tonne of respect for him on that decision. It would be easy to just go for more money and take a spot away from someone else.

Are there any other woods in the league that could effectively fill that hole?

There's the old standby, a 4' x 6' sheet of Plywood.
