Icon24 Toews out indefinitely with medical issue

Quote:
"This offseason, I've been experiencing symptoms that have left me feeling drained and lethargic. I am working with doctors so I can better understand my condition.

Until I can get my health back to a place where I feel I can perform at an elite level and help my team, I will not be joining the Blackhawks for training camp. I do not have a timetable for when I will rejoin the team. I am extremely disappointed, but it wouldn't be fair to myself or my teammates to attempt to play in my current condition

I am grateful for the continuous support from and ongoing communication with the Blackhawks organization. Stan Bowman, Rocky Wirtz, Danny Wirtz, Jeremy Colliton and my teammates have been nothing but understanding of my situation, and I appreciate them standing by me.

To Blackhawks fans, I will continue to do whatever I can to get back on the ice and return to play the game I love for the team I love. I will not be making any further comment at this time and ask everyone to please respect my privacy as I focus on my health and recovery."

Yikes.

So the Hawks start the season without their top 2 centers. Wow.

Given his comments a few months ago I'm sure this will raise eyebrows for some, especially given the wording of the statement.

Wish him all the best. Don't like to see anybody miss time.

Whats left unsaid here is important- I hope Toews is able to pull through this illness and come out with a good quality of life, regardless of his ability to hit the ice again.

Yikes, that doesn't sound good. Hope he can somehow recover soon from whatever it is. Hawks with some brutal news over the past week.

Sad for hockey, just brutal for the Hawks.

What were those comments? I must have missed it.

I remember watching a feature on Rene Bourque many years ago when he played for the Flames. He was saying some of the same things. Looking for a medical explanation for lack of energy etc.

He was unhappy with direction of team in Oct.

Hope he gets better soon, it's likely a depression issue.

2 months in Edmonton can do that to you

I'm not so sure it's depression. First thing that came to mind was a covid related issue, but also more serious, Lyme disease. Hard to tell what it is given the general nature of the statement. I hope he's alright though.

My immediate thoughts were some form of Leukemia or Lymphoma. Let's hope it's none of these.

I will always look fondly at the way he and his team dispatched the Oil in the play-ins

Hope he overcomes whatever the issue is

Hope it’s just from carrying Stanley Cups around and not a medical condition.

If something is undiagnosed, would they still go on LTIR and receive their salary?
