Can we read into this that Mackey has made the opening day roster as the 7th defenceman? Or perhaps just that they're trying sneak him through on a day where there will be a massive amount of players on waivers?

Wow, cant believe they couldn't work out some sort of trade. He is an NHL defenseman barely making over the minimum.

I don't think it's guaranteed he's picked up. I think Flames fans are more hyped about him than NHL GMs.

Doubt he gets picked up. He is good, has great potential, but there are a lot of comparable guys on waivers at the moment.

Yup, lots of them.
His NHL showings have been pretty pedestrian, and while he does still have good potential at being better, my guess is that most NHL GMs see him as a 'tweener.
I wouldn't get too distressed about this, and I'm sure this thread will be filled with perfectly rational responses.

Not sure about this but can definitely see he has fallen out of favour with the team. I would say 70% chance he gets claimed. What is the rule on waivers? He has to stay on the NHL roster 30 days after being claimed and is subject to waivers again if he is sent down? He would be an upgrade on a number of teams 6-7 defenseman.

Assuredly? No.
Possibly? Yes.
Most teams in the NHL has 1 or 2 guys like Kylington in that they have been nothing but tweeners for their time with that club.
This is not in any way that surprising.
