Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2020 - Round 14

It's time for the 8th annual Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking, but at a different time of year and certainly at a different time.

First a look back at previous years can be done with this handy link: Previous Results

Once again vote how you want. There are those that vote 100% on potential, some that vote 100% on the likelihood to see an NHL rink, others that apply a mix, some using the value in a trade. Completely up to you.

I'll run one a day until we are done, and then FlamesAddiction wants to do a one off list version to compare the results.

We start with 35 names so this should get us pretty close to a Flames camp.

2020 Results
1. Valimaki - 85%
2. Zary - 62%
3. Pelletier - 74%
4. Wolf (Run Off)
5. Mackey (Run Off)
6. Pettersen 42%
7. Phillips 36%
8. Gawdin 28%
9. Zavgorodniy 34%
10. Poirier 39%
11. Kuznetsov 43%
12. Kinnvall 56%
13. Ruzicka 44%

Josh Nodler has the most potential to be an impact player based on his leadership attributes. (WJHC Team USA?)

I thought I had heard a lot of people call Mackey and Poolman pretty comparable when they were signed. Poolman doesn’t have nearly the hype but he could be coming up for a vote soon.

I always consider leadership roles as well, but there are plenty of guys like John Ramage out there as well.

Chechelev appears to have gone from VHL to MHL to now... KHL?

If this is true, the poll shouldn't be close.

Chechelev will probably have better KHL stats at 19 than Parsons had in the ECHL at 22.

I don't think it should be close either way. Parsons hasn't had a good season since he left London three years ago.

I voted the Russian goalie. I just haven't read a compelling argument for Parsons yet. Amazing athleticism and will to win, big game ability etc. All of that was true 3 years ago. He has been in the ECHL for 2 years with pedestrian numbers. With all the goalie prospects we have, if he has another meh year, is he qualified? It's a debatable question which means he's farther down on the list for me. Staying healthy is a skill and he doesn't seem to have it. Maybe he'll end up like Backlund and the injuries just stop, but as of right now I just don't know if the potential to be a starter in the NHL is still there.

I voted for Parsons, but if I had realized Chechelev actually has moved up to the KHL, that would probably have changed my vote for him.

I was on the fence and voted Parsons, but Chechelev has a freight train of momentum and would happily switch.

They were both sought after FA's, and both were considered to be coup signings, but I wouldn't consider them to be on the same level. Mackey was easily the #1 D man available, and has a much higher ceiling than Poolman. Mackey has much more offensive skill, and size, where Poolman projects as a more physical, stay-at-home type with grit.
