Flames Flames recall Mackey from Stockton; assigned to taxi squad

Unsurprising, given his absence from the Heat lineup today.

Who do they call up to the main roster is the bigger question.

They recalled Kylington to the main roster on Saturday

The Stockton Heat coach was extremely complimentary of Mackey when he gave his last update on the team. He's one of the top scoring rookies in the AHL, has thrived with every partner that he's been put with all season and is considered their number 1 D.

As an older prospect, he is in a pretty good position to get a shot here following Hanifin's injury. Hopefully the team can take care of business today and we get a chance to see what he's got in games that matter. He didn't get very many games, but I thought he actually showed pretty well earlier in the season and would expect that he's improved with a season of pro hockey now under his belt.

Yeah, Mackey has really been fantastic with the Heat this year. Well-deserved recall.

Mackey always looks solid, if unspectacular when I have watched him with the Heat.

Poolman looks like a trainwreck.

I watched Kuznetsov today and he doesnt look like an 19 year old in the AHL. He was very very good.

I would prefer to see Mackey or Kylington over Nesterov now that Hanifin is out but I’m not so sure it will happen..

What is it now? 10 games remaining? Time for some try outs. I think each of Mackey, Kylington and Nesterov get 3 games each to prove their worth to Sutter.

Until they are eliminated that’s not gonna happen.

Exactly!

Sutter will have none of that nonsense.

Sutter's comments were interesting when he said that there are 3 or 4 young defenseman who are going to have to compete for a spot at this point. Seems to suggest that the coaches intend to give guys a shot if Nestorov isn't getting it done to the level they want.
