With the loss of Nielsen's rights, the Nilsson-Niewendyk-Iginla chain is done.

Feaster beats the Flames twice.

Makes sense that they didn't qualify either Nielsen or Schneider.
Gillies is a UFA this year, correct?

Gawdin, 23, being qualified and Jankowski, 26, not being qualified, signals a passing of the torch at 4C on Calgary's depth chart.
There's a lot to like with the former Swift Current Bronco, who brings a solid 2-way game. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play next year in the NHL.

Type 6 UFA I think. Hasn’t played enough games for his age, therefore becomes a class 6.

Not shocked at the no-QO guys. Could see Janko getting a lesser "show me again, please, seriously" offer, again?
Ugh.

Goodbye to the best player from the 2012 draft. It was a wild ride.

Kinda funny the Janko era ends after the Flames just traded down in the first round. Here hoping the Treliving trade works out better than the Feaster version.

Yeah, but Zary is kind of the anti-Jankowski. Jankowski had awful NHL-equivalent scoring, but scouts liked his raw attributes and was a reach. Whereas Zary has excellent NHLe, but isn't projected as positively.

There wouldn't have been enough data to have an NHLe for Jankowski, the midwest prep hockey league doesn't exactly turn out many NHLers; Janko may even be their first.

No wonder they brought back the retro jerseys. Now it's a full on reset for the franchise!

I do wonder if they think Zary might be ready now. I mean by the time the season gets rolling and camp, he might be.
Covid is doing weird things.

And here the Flames traded down and got a guy most ranked higher. Before they traded down and got a guy ranked well below, who they likely could have had a shot at in the 2nd round.

Hopefully they don't have to go to zero hour with Mangiapane again. It'd be nice to get him locked up with some term and not after training camp has opened already.

It's hard to justify playing him over Glenn Gawdin, who was a point per game player in the AHL.
And even for Gawdin, I doubt they just gift him the spot.
