Pittsburgh Penguins Assistant Coaches let go/not renewed

Didn’t see anything on this yet so figured I would start a thread.

Looks like everyone gone except Mike Sullivan. I wonder what comes next?

I actually thought that Sullivan might be on the hot seat. I guess winning back to back cups does give you a longer leash.

Blaming assistant coaches....its the first sign of implosion.

Rutherford was rightfully pissed off during his presser yesterday. He kept mentioning the players were at fault, without naming names, so i suspect some pretty major moves from him whenever the off season starts.

I understand maybe letting go of one assistant or two but all of them is not a good look. Maybe Recchi or Gonchar weren't ready or up to snuff but Martin is an experienced coach. Typically if the overall results aren't there it's on the head coach not his assistants.

Well I'm sure the players are part of the issue but if you are going to single out coaching as a problem I don't understand how you single out all the assistants and not the head coach.

Recchi has been there in a development role starting in 2014, then became an assistant coach in 2017. His main responsibilities were the forwards and PP. The Pens PP under Recchi was 3rd overall in the league during his tenure (obviously, with elite players).

Assuming Geoff Ward returns full time next season, and Ray Edwards returns to his development role, Recchi would be a good choice for an assistant. He played under Ward for 3 seasons in Boston

I feel really bad for the Penguins and their fans with this turmoil after missing the playoffs.

It's been a really tough 15 years for them.

Sullivan is going nowhere.

He’s on a big ticket that runs through the 23-24 season.
