Default Having a car hauled from Ont. - any advice?

Hi all,

Im thinking of buying a car from ontario and having it shipped here.

I've heard that trucking companies will do it for a decent price, and rail is an option too.

Im looking at bringing the car from Kingston to Calgary, and obviously, I'd like to pay a lowere price, but dont want to scrimp on getting the car here safe and in one piece.

Any recommendations or advice would be welcome.

If you have done something like this before, please post the company name and contact number, and I'll check it out.

Thanks in advance,
rico

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Neeper might know... he imports cars. Even though technically you're not importing.

My old landlord went through this last year and decided that the best deal at that time was rail. Can't remember any details except he said it was the quickest and cheapest option.

It's worth looking into.

Why not fly out there and drive it home? You know it's in good hands and having just made that drive I can tell you it's a lot of fun.
We've got a beautiful country here.

I had to transport a car over from Toronto about 4 years ago. I used VIA rail and cost about $600.

Once it gets here, I remember having to do an inspection or something before I could register the vehicle. I believe you had to get a temporary permit before you pick the car up.

Hope this helps.

sketchyt, it's called an "out of province inspection" and if it doesn't pass, you can't get it registered. I had to do this with my car when I moved to AB and the first place I took it to failed it and told me I had to do over $3000 worth of work to get it to pass. The next place I took it charged me about $100 for the inspection and it passed with flying colors.

Good luck with the purchase, rico.

That car is just begging to be driven! I can sell you some westjet credits at a discount and then you just drive it home! It's a shame otherwise.

Why don't you have the dealer do it for you. That way if there is any damage you can get them to fix it.

Oceanside carriers is who we use normally but i think they generall stay on the east coast.

Hansens is another good shipping company that we use and they do go coast to coast in fact i think they have a yard in Calgary. http://www.lhf.com
Thorstons is another.

Stay away from Mackie

For out of province vehicles I was under the impression that you get registered and insured first, then do the inspection. If you do not pass then you have a certain amount of days to make the repairs, or your insurance gets cancelled. Is that not correct?

I ned to make some calls and find out, doing the same thing very soon.
