Flames_Gimp has passed
I know, I should have posted this months ago.
Flames_Gimp passed on August 7, 2024 after a hospital stay of a few weeks. Out of respect for him I'll skip the medical details and say that he went peacefully surrounded by his family.
FG and I had been friends for 25 years. Our friendship was centered around the Calgary Flames. We had season tickets for four years culminating with the 2004 Playoff run where we attended every home game.
He was a huge Flames fan and hated the Oilers with that same veracity. He hadn't even changed his Facebook picture back from the Florida Panthers logo as it remains today.
I know he was a bit polarizing at times on CP. His humour certainly wasn't vanilla.
He was my friend. I did not have cry online on May 30 on my bingo card...

That sucks. He was often abrasive but you could tell it was because his life was tough. He did contribute a lot to CP and I was thinking about him recently.
I'm sorry you lost a friend.

Condolences
Today is the anniversary of a close friend killing himself. I always remember him, which kinda keeps him alive a bit.
Take Care of yourself.

Quite sad to hear this.
It must have been 10 years ago but Joel offered up his companion ticket a few times and I went with him 3 or 4 times. I was happy to throw him some cash and help him get through the concourse, that spot at the end of the ice was great. We were around the same age and even though his life was a lot tougher than the rest of us you wouldn't know. He was really fun to hang out with.

I loved his sense of humour. Sometimes dark, unfiltered, and self-deprecating. Right down my alley.
I remember quite some time ago, obviously before August 2024, I noticed he hadn't been around and because I missed his posts, casually asked in a thread about whatever happened to him. He sent me a message saying that he was still lurking, just not posting as much, and thanks for thinking about him.
I am sorry to hear this news and condolences to all those who knew him.

Well fata me now I am crying Reaps. I know you were a great friend to him way back, for some reason I thought you was his chaperone or caregiver at some point.
Met him once. It was very awkward because I frankly have never known a disabled dude like that. Do I hug you, wipe your ass?
We PM'd lots. Goddamn.
He was not polarizing, he was awesome an unique. Virtue signaling posters thought he was polarizing. He had a unique view of the world shaped through his experience of living a traumatic and extremely difficult life. He's like 'I had a heart attack last week'. Posters couldn't understand he had a different lens to the world? And not appreciate it and learn from it.
I want more unique fataed up people in my life, not less.
His best line will forever be "You win some you luge some" when that luger died. Beautiful. Pretty sure he got suspended for that because that is a good call mods.

Sad to hear! Over the years we were pretty close. He helped me build my first PC in his living room out of some old parts I bought from him.
I did some labour for him as well for some flooring odd jobs for a business he was trying to get up and going. We went to a couple of games as well together.
