Calgary Flames All Time Roster - First Line LW
So some details ...
1. Calgary players only
2. I'll look at games played, production and PPG to list options.
3. My cut off won't effect options as I'll go deeper than required
4. I'll label them by rank (3rd line LW) but don't select the player that matches that role the best, pick the best player.
Day to Day
We elect a position, say 2nd line RW, remove that name and do the 3rd line RW the next day.
I'll post a summary as we go along.
Calgary Flames All Time Roster
LW1 - C1 - RW1
LW2 - C2 - RW2
LW3 - C3 - RW3
LW4 - C4 - RW4
D1 - D2
D3 - D4
D5 - D6
Miikka Kiprusoff
Mike Vernon

I think of Pepper as mostly a LW - no?
Anyways voting Roberts here - Johnny needs some recognition- at his best he’s reached a peak that few have wearing the Flaming C- but Roberts is one of my all time faves and has the right combination of tenure, playoff success, toughness and was also near elite at his best
The answer could be #19 in a few years - I would be happy if this were true

So hard to draw a line for choices!
Sort by points ... sort by games played ... sort by ppg ... I included Lever and Vail because they played in Calgary and were part of a very good team, plus their time in Atlanta.
It goes deep with Saprykin, Kromm.
Didn't include Drury for tenure ... Mangiapane is coming but not productive enough yet.

Yeah I cross referenced hockeydb and hockey reference and they both had him a right shooting right winger. Just went with it.

Games played is a great way to list

Has to be Roberts. Has a cup ring and was the total package and accomplished a lot despite serious neck issues. He was a warrior and exactly the type of player this current roster sorely lacks.

Except they have that player in Matthew Tkachuk.

The other players on this line are going to end up being Iginla with either Nieuwendyk or Gilmour. So I'm voting Gaudreau (and actually thought long and hard about Tanguay.) I think you want a skilled passer filling out that line.
Roberts in his prime was an incredible player but I feel like he'd be a bit redundant playing with Iggy.

Personally I think Roberts or
Tkachuk with Gilmour and Iggy while potentially redundant but would be a thing of beauty and a line that could play against anyone

You’re right. Now that I’m thinking about that it would be an absolute joy to watch.

Voted for Tkachuk mainly because I think with all he’s shown and the room left to grow, he’ll be the best of them.

I like Roberts but when Johnny is on, he draws me out of my seat

For me, this was an easy one. Gary Roberts was the kind of player you feared as an opponent come playoff time. Johnny has a lot to prove to match that reputation. Also, if you asked me who I would be willing to trade between "chucky" and Johnny if their ages and contracts were equal, I would probably say Johnny. A small, one dimensional winger isn't going to make the cut here.

I didn’t vote for who it is all time today I voted for who it will be and that is future captain Matthew Tkachuk.

I chose Roberts for what he has done. I also think given time Tkachuk could become as good a player as Roberts was. It was a touch choice.

Very tough choice between Roberts and Gaudreau. Roberts had a longer tenure, 60 more points, and more playoff success, while Gaudreau is one of the most exciting players in Flames history, has led the team in scoring multiple times, and had a 99 point season with Hart votes (although Roberts had one season on a 114 point pace before injuries).
I went with Gaudreau since his team scoring titles show how important he was to those teams. Ask me again tomorrow and I’ll say something different.

Roberts on the left and Iginla on the right of the first line and Gaudreau on the left and Fleury on the right of the second line would be one hell of a combo to throw at teams.

Gaudreau is a special talent and he makes you want to watch him. There’s a reason kids buy his sweater above the others. And he was in the Hart conversation one year. I couldn’t really say these things about Roberts.
But Roberts is 4th all time in goals for the franchise. As of right now, he gets my vote.

Roberts was amazing in 92, smashing in 53. Injuries killed parts of the next few years but he was near Neely territory 93-96. My favorite player before iginla. Just a friggin beast.
