Default "Oh man, we should have never chirped him"

From an interview at the Athletic. Ryan Whitney and Shane O'Brien chatting about Jarome.
O’Brien: Dude, that was like (Jarome) Iginla, when I was in Vancouver and we were playing Calgary like, (Ryan Kesler) and (Alex Burrows) were like first period, Iginla would be sleeping. First TV timeout I would be like, “Leave him alone. Don’t talk to him. Don’t chirp him. Don’t ####ing slash him because he’s not in the game right now.” And if you woke Iggy up, next thing you know he’s had two goals, one assist and beat the #### out of Willie Mitchell or something. You’re just like, “Oh man, we should have never chirped him.”
Whitney: It was like, “Guys, he was just chilling. Why did you do that?”
O’Brien: Yeah, we could have just got through this game, let Iggy sleep, next thing you know we’re at cowboys. It would have been a great night. But you woke him up and now we’re in one.

I miss Iggy.
We need someone who can take over a game like he could.
The team is incredibly lucky to have Johnny and Chucky, who can both turn the tide of the game, but they don't have it like Iggy did.

Fleury had that in him too. Massive chip on his shoulder that would compel him to take over a game in any way possible. If you antagonized Fleury, he would play even harder.

How many guys are there like that though? Crosby, McKinnon, McDavid, Kane and maybe Eichel are names that come to mind of current players who regularly change the tide of a game and singlehandedly take over, very few do it consistently

You're right we're lucky to have guys like Gaudreau and Tkachuk who are capable of doing it, Monahan has been one of the most clutch players in Flames history, and Gio has been a great emotional leader. I think it's extremely rare to see anything like Iggy though

Iginla didn't just score big goals, he did everything. Like they said, he would put up the points, but he would also intimate and dominate like no player I've seen since

It's really too bad we couldn't give Iginla and Kiprusoff a proper supporting cast, because we might never see players like them ever again in Calgary

I always wished for Iggy to get crushed in the first five minutes of every game, because he'd utterly dominate for the remaining 55 minutes.

Later on teams caught on to that as well. Mostly poke checks from defenseman, no body checks. Just frustrate him, not make him angry.

There's a reason why Jarome Iginla is going into the Hall.

He was really, really, really good at ice hockey.

Stop saying everything that comes to your head during an emotional moment without letting it breath! That's what junior broadcasters and colour guys get trained out of them in year one.

This post makes me laugh because it’s exactly something Fleury would say. Theo do you think they should have chirped Iginla? “You know I was like that too, you didn’t want to get me going”

Could you imagine this current roster with prime Iggy on RW and prime Kipper in net? I honestly don't think we'd ever lose a game.

Agreed, and that right there is the big difference between Fleury and Iginla: ego. However, I understand why Fleury resorts to bravado, having suffered trauma that undermines his self-worth at all times, he needs to pump himself up a little. Iggy always was humble though, never braggadocious the way Fleury would be at times.

I'd take 2015 Iggy on RW at this point.

And Kipper could strap on the pads after fishing for the last decade with nothing but a quick stretch and a smoke and still be better than anything we've since since he left.
