Nice little pat on the back for Alberta and one of the many reasons it's the best province in the country.

The key thing to take away from this article is to actively try out some of the indigenous tourism experiences that Alberta has to offer. And I think that's highly important if one wants to truly experience and support Albertan culture, history, and landscape.

I have always meant to go to Writing on Stone, but never have.
That's a mistake I intend to change this coming summer.

Alberta, government aside, is pretty rad honestly.

Not right now it isn't...I can't believe they tore out all the railings and left it with those ugly fences and no plan. Gonna be a messy winter once the snow gets in there.

I had to read the NG article after seeing that we are grouped with places like Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Karpathos, Greece, Ghana, and Laos. Very different group there.
We are in the "Community: Where conservation benefits everyone" group.
It does not say much other than
Quote:
Experience how long-held traditions and contemporary perspectives intersect, with Indigenous tourism outfitters in Alberta, Canada.
|
It does have a link to their Alberta Travel Guide page though which is not bad even if it is all paid content articles

While coverage like this is glamorous - the summer overcrowding situation in Banff National Park has turned off many an out of town tourist we know. Shuttle buses are one thing, but there aren't even enough of those to accommodate the volume. They've left with a rather sour taste.
Good to see some of the lesser known places highlighted in the article. We highly recommend people come off peak if BNP and it's views are what they're after.

I haven't been to Banff (other than to ski) in years. It holds no appeal, and the crowds are one of the key drivers.

I've slowly come around to Slivers line of thinking in that we need more mountain towns. I don't get how in a place with such a low population density, all these places are overcrowded.
I used to just skip Banff and go to Lake Louise or Canmore. Even those are a gong show now. Gotta go camping on crown land just to get space

Is there a tourist area that’s not overcrowded in the summer? I haven’t been to Italy in the summer but I’ve heard it’s stupid busy these days. Seems like par for the course really.

New glass was up on the west side almost halfway, but work looks to have stalled out over the last few weeks. Wonder why?

You sure it is new? They left the south side glass in place that wasn't shattered, maybe the first 10 panes or so.

Drive for an hour in any direction and you'll find a completely different landscape.

I love that about Calgary. Breakfast in the badlands, lunch in the mountains, steak for dinner in cattle country
