Lawson Cruise gets called for a tripping penalty and Jack Eichel scores three seconds later, 1-0 Sabres.

Darcy Kuemper hurt after OEL collided with him trying to defend.
Looks to be ok.
Dumb play by OEL. After colliding with Larsson, OEL just sat on Kuemper who was in an awkward position.

3-0 Canucks early. Canucks got the backup tonight but he's been yanked now and Bob comes in.

Does it seem like every East team has come to Calgary first, and to Edmonton/Vancouver?

The Canucks post game show will be calmer this evening with the victory. It was a nuclear meltdown on Friday as many callers were delirious.

So far this season, five teams have come through on the Western Canadian swing. Every one of them had a back-to-back during the trip. Not once have the Flames been on the second half of the back-to-backs. - LA: Edmonton on Saturday; Calgary on Tuesday; Vancouver on Wednesday
- Philadelphia: Vancouver on Saturday; Calgary on Tuesday; Edmonton on Wednesday
- Detroit: Vancouver on Tuesday; Calgary on Thursday; Edmonton on Friday
- Washington: Calgary on Tuesday; Edmonton on Thursday; Vancouver on Friday
- Florida: Calgary on Thursday; Edmonton on Sunday; Vancouver on Monday

The Coyotes came back from a 2-0 deficit to win it in the SO as they out shot the Sabres 44-26. Hutton was the reason Buffalo gets a point. It was welcome back night for Phil Housley. There was a video tribute for him as he is now an assistant coach with the Coyotes.
The Canucks scored 5 goals in the first period. The Panthers looked tired as they are in the midst of a western conf road trip and lose in reg time for the first time in 9 games. Montembault let in the first 3 goals before Bobrovsky let in 2 more. Montembault came back to start the 2nd period. All 12 forwards for the Canucks recorded a point. Edler and Pettersson each had 3 assists.

This is where stats tell virtually nothing about the quality of play. The Panthers regularly give up grade A chances throughout the game. They have some of the worst defensive play I've ever seen. Yet Bobrovsky makes 4 or 5 ridiculous saves a night trying to keep his team in it. Now I will say he has a pretty low save percentage on those high danger chances, but he's been peppered to start this year.
It's not his fault that his team can't do a damn thing in their own end.
The Panthers are currently 4th from the bottom in High Danger Chances %, and this is a very offensive team that creates plenty of chances of their own. That tells you just how bad they are in their own zone so far.

The nucks are top 4 in goals allowed and top ten in goals scored, they have the best goal diff in the league at 15, right now they are a legitimately good team, they are young, it's early in the season and it will probably not last but it is churlish not to recognise that they have made a huge step forward from last year

Canucks are 3rd in the league in PDO but 15th in expected goals for percentage. They are the top team in the league in high danger chance shooting percentage at over 30%, which means they are capitalizing on the chance they get more than any other team in the league. They are getting bounces early in the year and are due for some amount of regression.
One thing I'll give them credit for is they are top half in most advanced metrics, indicating that they're at least a middle of the pack team. I give them a good chance at making the playoffs this year so long as they stay healthy, something they didn't really do last year.

The Canucks have benefited from a really easy schedule so far, but they have been playing very well. Miller has been a great addition to the team as well, shoring up the depth. Hughes has been a solid PP quarterback and has been a very effective puck moving defenseman as well. Having two young players on entry level contracts is hiding a lot of the impact of their overpayments to UFAs. In two years time though they will be in for a rude awakening.

True, although a rising tide tends to float all boats and some of those players will look better to a struggling team as they benefit from a better team around them

Yeah, don't get too excited about the Canucks. I'm sure they have taken a step somewhat, but they were 4th in the league after last year's October and we all know how that turned out.
