The stamps were like that for a long time if it wasn't a sellout I believe.

Bit of an oversimplification I think. It has happened to several regional sports networks as they negotiate with the carriers over rights fees. It’s the old debate. Why should my cable bill be higher for a sports channel I never want to watch.

The issue with Altitude Sports here is that they want higher fees from the providers, but the actual subscription/ interest in the channel is low.
They still have the broadcast crew working, but nobody is, or can, watch.

How would things go if that was the issue here?

Just tell them to imagine what would happen if Broncos games were blacked out in Colorado. It would pretty much be like that.

The then-IHL Chicago Wolves in nearby Rosemont used to outdraw the Blackhawks at one point.

This thread is....wow.
I'd say look at Blackhawks, or heck, even Flames a few years ago with 10-20% home games as PPV.
Shatty, but alas, we're talking an entertainment product and if the distributing party wants to be dink heads about it (PPV or blackouts) that is their prerogative, just vote with your wallet.

In today's marketplace making your product accessible to people with interests or even budding interests is critical.
In what world would a team hope to survive without children falling in love with the sport that are denied access.

Would need evidence of that. Highly doubtful!

Are there still local TV broadcasters for NHL teams? Most are regional sports networks now as far as I know.

Yeah, maybe that was urban myth. The Wolves did thrive at the Hawk's nadir though.

Does WGN in Chicago still own some broadcast rights? I think that there are some local stations in Philly/Pittsburgh/Boston with rights. Maybe even New Jersey?

A lot of people in my company are based in Denver - this issue is affecting the Nuggets too, and they aren't too happy with it.

Thanks for that nugget of info.
Do the NHL and NBA teams in Denver share the same owner?

I live in Omaha Nebraska and can not watch the Flames play the Avs because we have black outs on center ice. Yet the Altitude channel is not on my service. So blacked out and can’t do anything about it. UnFortunately the playoffs were not on regional broadcasts so I didn’t miss those games.

I would stream the game illegally. If they can't make it easier for me to watch legally and pay them to do it, then they forced my hand.

IMO blacking out games is dinosaur thinking. People want accessibility and there are so many forms of accessible entertainment, if the Avs are not accessible, people will just watch Netflix or play a video game instead
