Not Gillies? Odd.
Davidson stays in the mix for now as well.

Can't waive a guy if you're going to fire him into the sun.

The Heat's training camp starts today as well: https://stocktonheat.com/news/stockt...training-camp/
Interesting name on a try-out: Goalie Hayden Hawkey
Not only does he literally have an interesting name, he was Jankowski's teammate in Providence for one season. His path did not cross with Gillies as Hawkey's freshman year was the year after Gillies went pro.
For now, the rest of the list is mostly guys on AHL-only deals (including little brother Matty Hockey), but should get bolstered by a bunch of guys on two-way NHL deals who don't require waivers.

No surprise there really. He has spent the majority of his time the last few years in the NHL. I think he's in the mix for that 7 job.

Should we expect all the players who don't need waivers do be assigned today as well?

One might say there's a new Mr. Hawkey in town.

Yeah, most likely later today Flames will announce a lot of cuts.
Today is a day off for the players though, but the listed practice schedule for the Flames for the rest of the week seems to indicate one practice group.

I think I read somewhere that the Flames still have 25 forwards in camp after these waivers?
I imagine that'll be reduced down to 18ish later today

Any move they would likely make will still require him to clear waivers though. Even if they could find another NHL team to trade for him, you'd have to think the other team would want him to clear waivers before the trade.

It’s much too hard to fire someone into the sun. Fire him to Pluto.

Major cuts this afternoon: https://www.nhl.com/flames/news/flam...er/c-309403198
Most of the waiver-exempt players are going down.
3 goalies, 9 defencemen, 16 forwards left in camp.

Pelletier is still in camp. I warrant he will stay for the duration, and be among the last cuts.
This seems to suggest that the Flames are working on moving Gillies, no?
