I really hope Gio is like Lidstrom and keeps going at a productive pace until his 40's. Hopefully by then he can get the one piece of hardware that eluded Iginla before his number gets sent to the rafters. It's a shame that Iggy never got his cup, it would be a travesty if the 2 best captains in Flames history didn't.

It would be an absolute crime if Gio doesn't win the Norris this year. Worse than the Iginla Hart Trophy fiasco of 2002.

Relax people. He's already got a designated spot on the mantle for the Norris. He earned it this year and nobody else is laying claim to what is his.

I wouldn’t be too surprised, many people will be quick to slobber all over Tampa this year. And those unfamiliar with the West might just give votes to Burns on reputation.

I legit got chills from watching that.
Also, Reggie gets a free pass from me on the Gee-or-danno at the end, but only because I want nothing to do with the Tunnel of Death.

I only just now noticed, but I think it is awesome that the Calgary Flames twitter handle is "z - Calgary Flames."
That is so great.

It will be great if Gio is selected to Team Canada and win the 2022 Winter Olympics (hopefully the NHL players will/can go there). He got robbed of the chance twice (2014 by Dan Hamhuis and 2018 by Gary Bettman)

Of course.
I'll add it to the OP

It really wouldn't surprise me. He's still a strong skater. Takes care of himself. Like Lidstrom, the thinks the game at an elite level.

My only concern is he hits more and harder than Lidstrom did and blocks more shots with his whole body (diving blocks) than he did too.

I'm not that worried about it going to Burns. 83 points is impressive, but +13 is not. That tells you everything you need to know about his game on both sides of the puck. I think San Jose's implosion at the end of the season will be influential as well.
I'm far more worried about the Toronto-centric media giving it to Reilly.

NHL.com's latest informal poll had Gio getting 19 of 21 1st place votes. Burns and Hedman may have gotten one each, maybe it was Burns getting two.
Everything seems to indicate this is his year.

Burns led his team in scoring and had the highest point total for a defenceman in 20 years. And Gio is still the favourite. That says something about how special he is as a player. He’s had an elite season offensively and defensively. It’s remarkable.

I like it. Much better than listening to fruit cake Jay Feaster recapping Iginlas time in Calgary. Everyone would rather here from former flames talking about current flames. With Lanny’s narration of Iginla’s retirement, it is done well and always grabs your attention. Regehr is a nice touch to essentially tipping his hat to his former teammate

I'm really not sure where to ask this question and it didn't seem important enough to start a thread, but when is the voting tallied for the NHL awards? I know they're presented after the playoffs but the votes should all be in now right?
I'm only asking because watching the TSN highlight package for the Sharks/Knights game, the commentator makes a strange comment and almost goes silent as if she said something she shouldn't have.
"Burns snipes it past Fleury, San Jose's Norris trophy winner... team... is up."
Now I'm just hoping she's referring to the fact that he won in 2017, but then wouldn't she comment about him getting the pass from another Norris trophy winner in Karlsson? I'm also hoping the awkward silence after is because she just got tongue-tied and not because she accidentally slipped something she shouldn't have live on TV. Anyways, this just caught my attention and with the whole Sportsnet fiasco recently, it wouldn't be surprising. For those interested, it's the preliminary highlight package for the Sharks/Knights game and the comment is from about 1:10 to 1:15 or so.
Anyways, I hope this is just all tin-foil hat stuff cause when I first heard it, I had to go make sure that he wasn't already announced as the winner and was super pissed about it at first.
