Default (Rumor) Free agents from Russia - rumours from proven sources

Guys,

Just got a really interesting information from a very reliable source close to KHL players. Even this source was shocked to hear it...

Flames are very-very close to sign or are frontrunners for:

23 yo G Artem Zagidulin from Metallurg Magnitogorsk
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...tyom-zagidulin

23 yo D Alexander Yelesin from Lokomotiv Yaroslavl
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...xander-yelesin

26 yo RW Andrey Chibisov from Metallurg Magnitogorsk
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...ndrei-chibisov

For me only Zagidulin makes a lot of sense, though let's see how it will end up soon. Especially taking into account 2 Swedes that are rumoured in another treads here.

Would all these signings be next year or could these players join the team for the playoffs? I am going to assume they would have to pass through waivers for the playoffs so that would be a no go

Russians in Calgary? I'll believe it when I see it.

Edit: I believe it! Wow, great stuff, russianflame.

I agree

I got info about Yelesin about 2 days ago and scratched my head. As it didn't make much sense with a load of young defensemen we have. Today I got info about Zagidulin and Chibisov... Scratched my head twice... Russians and Flames are not created for each other But lets see...

Would these guys be NHL ready or would they play in the AHL for awhile?

I think they can only sign Chibisov to a 1 year ELC deal. He would want a solid shot at NHL time right away.

The other 2 can sign 2 (or 3) year ELC deals (I think?) and I also think they would be AHL guys to start. I think there are a lot of guys in Stockton right now that won't be back next year.

Low risk with potential to pay off. Might work out or might not, but at least Tre and the scouts aren't afraid to look under every rock for potential impact players.

They wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs even if the Flames signed them for this year and they cleared waivers.

UFAs must be signed before the trade deadline to be eligible for the playoffs.

If the Flames had their draft rights, they would have been on the reserve list for the trade deadline and then they could have joined the team for a playoff run.

You weren't born yet, but Calgary opened the door to Russian players in 1989 by coming to terms with the Russian Federation and signing Sergei Priakin and then a couple years later with Sergei Makarov....The Priakin deal opened the door for the Russian 5 in Detroit.

Yelesin would fit a big need for the organization.

Only RH D with NHL contract for next year: Hamonic, Andersson, Stone. That is it. Nothing else.

Yelesin could be potentially the first injury call up if the Flames need a RHS.

Also as a big hitting defensive d-man he could be a good complementary partner to a puck mover like Valimaki or Kylington.

The goalie is interesting. Average size. 23. Goes right into the battle with Gillies and Parsons.

Makes sense if you are going to dip into the Russians to sign a bunch at once. They do better with a friend
