Default Recommend an Auto insurance company

Was just on hold for over an hour with TD insurance and after reading some online comments, It's become clear to me that I'm wasting my time and money with them as they don't payout on claims submitted by many of the commenters

Aside from AMA, recommend an auto insurance company for me!

We’ve never had problems with TD Melloche regarding claims. We’ve had two hail claims, one lightning strike, and one vehicle claim. Zero issues dealing with them on those.

I switched to TD after Wawanesa took over 4 years to pay out a claim. They had the best reputation for paying claims when I checked.

Sorry you're having trouble - I know from experience that sucks.

Part of it is people don't go post online about how great their insurance company was about paying their claim and leave a review. They think, great, this unpleasant experience is dealt with and move on.

People who are pissed off leave reviews for insurance companies.

I previously had TD Meloche Monnex and I thought they were great. We had three claims and it was overall a painless process. I had to do a bit of "haggling" over a total loss claim but that is pretty normal. I switched to The Personal as APEGA switched to them and my premiums dropped quite a bit. I haven't made a claim on the new policy though so I can't compare the two companies.

I would just go with price and switch regularly.

You as an individual don’t have enough claims experiences to form an opinion on how good or bad on average an insurance company is.

You also don’t know the number of customers an insurance company has so it’s impossible to compare numbers of positive or negative reviews

Therefore since it is not possible to differentiate between the quality of insurance company I would just follow price.

Possibly an insurance broker would have a wide enough number of dealings with i Iran regarding company to offer real advice but everything else is just anecdotal.

Been with TD since I started driving due to Alumni + Family discounts. Like my utilities with Enmax, I feel like I should shop around but I'm pretty apathetic about it since TD has been great every time we've had a claim. The 3% fee to pay by the month is pretty greazee tho

I recommend CUMIS insurance, they are credit union run. I heard about them through First Calgary. When I last did a quote they were close to 15% cheaper than anyone else including AMA and a broker. Home insurance is not as cheap but comparable to other quotes. Not sure, but I don't believe you need to be a credit union member to become a client.

Stay away from Travellers insurance, had a nightmare with them and a claim with my house. Absolutely awful

I have heard people say that buying insurance is like getting cell phone plans, you should shop around every couple of years to get better deals...

Been with TDMM for last 12 years. No issue with payout, etc. when I had to use them. Every time premiums go up (seems like annually), shopping elsewhere didn't fair any better. Grass wasn't greener on the other side, unfortunately.

I've been with TD MM as well... for over 15yrs... I *AM* annoyed by the increasing rates and monthly 3% premium for sure. That said my bicycles are all covered under home owner insurance (and had paid out for a stolen one a few years back), plus I've had 1 stolen vehicle covered and a second totalled vehicle covered although I had to negotiate them upwards which was a real chore. They also covered house damage due to hail (siding + roof), as well as a hail damaged vehicle. Plus covered a coupla fender benders. So although I think they're a little high priced, they *did* cover me for a lot. Due to the wrecked vehicle however they did NOT take care of my medical aspects and prematurely closed my file for which I'm still p*ssed off.

I have also used them for my travel insurance (flights, cancellation, rental vehicle) which was significantly cheaper than going through the travel agency.

Overall I feel we have benefited most from TD, rather then them sucking us dry. Soon enough will see what happens w/ premiums when kid gets their drivers license...

I use Co-op and get a good rate, they even gave me a surprise covid rebate. Can't tell what their like on claims as I haven't had one in the 12 years I've been using them(knocks on wood)

But the best recommendation is.... anyone but Intact

I've used Sonnet for a few years now and had no issues whatsoever. Wife had a minor claim that went fine and I had a hail damage claim on the truck that also went exceedingly easy.

I would echo other's comments about shopping around though. It really is a commodity and price should be the most significant factor.

Based on everyone's testimonials, I went back to calling TD again and bit the bullet on wait time. Was on hold for alittle under 90 minutes

Thanks again for everyone's input!
