Hey everyone, just got my first jersey today at the game. I couldn't afford one last spring but I figured now would be the right time. I chose #3, Dion Phaneuf, and he rewarded me with a hell of a game. My second choice was #19 Chuck Kobasew but I went with Phaneuf. Future seems secure here.

My question is, what is the best way to take care of my jersey? How do I wash it, store it, etc without it getting wrecked? I'm sure some of the people here can help me out, since I know many of you can take better care of a jersey than even the laundry guy for the Flames.

Thanks for any tips!

I've never actually washed mine, mainly because I got it last Christmas and have rarely worn it due to the lock-out and all. It still smells new.

Does it not come with washing instuctions inside on the tag? *goes and grabs jersey*

OK!

Safe to wash on cold setting.

Don't iron, bleach or dry clean.

Tumble dry on low setting.

Put it on a hanger, cover it with a dark plastic garbage.Seal it.
Place it in the tightest, darkest closet in your house. Never ever peek at it!
Never ever wear it.
Hall of Fame jersey in about 25 years.

I have an authentic Habs jersey I bought in the late 80's, I wash it only a few times a year and I never put it in the dryer. Just hang it to dry, should be fine. Mine still looks new.

If you bought it at the game you probably had the numbers pressed on. I would suggest getting them stitched as well. In time the glue will weaken and things will start to peel off. Especially the name bar. Washing machines aren't great either. Water gets up under the crest sometimes. Dry cleaning is the way to go.

There are some simple rules for caring for your new jersey (or all jerseys for that matter):
  • Always wash your jersey inside out in cold water
  • Never put your jersey in the dryer - Always hang or lay flat to dry
  • Never, ever iron your jersey - this is how you melt a jersey
  • Never tuck your jersey into your pants unless you want to look like a dork. Wayne Gretzky is the only exception to this rule.

Well most of my jersey's get washed once a week, usually they're covered with sweat, or black marks from the tape of sticks when I get hooked, around the waist and arms. My white I wash in hot water with bleach when it gets really gross, but usually with just detergent, then hot dry, just because I'm to lazy to separate my socks, underwear, and various garments. The orange one and black one just go anywhere although never with bleach.

I do have a Vladimir Ruzicka Slavia Praha HC jersey, which has never left a closet and never will, I'm not quite sure what to do with it..

My old lady washes it. Does a fantastic job too I might add.

White Iginla that I've had since '00 I think (whenever the White jersey was brand new; bought it at the home opener that year).

I think she washes it in cold, but other than that we don't take too many precautions. The numbers and namebar are not stitched on, and they are in fine shape. The jersey is in fairly good shape as well. I've worn, washed and dried the thing about a million times. I think people don't realize that jerseys are actually very durable.

By the way it is a CCM Semi-Pro.

I dry clean mine. I always wear a t-shirt underneath of them and they are only worn for a few hours at a time. As a result, they rarely need cleaned. Dry cleaning is cheap and it will get out any stain that you might have been unfortunate enough to put on it.

I have gone this route with both authentic jerseys and semi pro.

How much was the Phaneuf jersey and is it stitched on? I want to get 1.

Also, does anyone know if there's a place to get a home jersey for less than $110.?
