Default Smith back to early season form, gifts the Wild 2 goals in a 4-2 loss. Dubnyk also st

It’s going to be terrifying if Smith starts game one of the playoffs. He had a nice run but he’s still probably one of the 5 worst goalies in the league with at least 10 GP.

Still the worst "starting" goalie in the NHL by a mile, as he has been for the entire time he's held that title this season.

I would be absolutely mortified to watch something like this unfold in the playoffs. Guy just can't be trusted for more than a game or two.

Terrible game by Smith, not just the goals he let in, but so many close-calls where he had no idea where the puck was. Shouldn't have played tonight.

A game or two?

Can't be trusted. End of story. Might be great, might be awful. That's what "can't be trusted" is.

Yes, his tracking was obviously, visibly poor tonight.

Wanna reiterate what I said in game thread.

There is no doubt that Smith has been playing exponentially better, not that it takes much to improve on the earlier play this season, but he has nowhere near earned starts in 7 of 9 games when the guy who EARNED the no 1 job is healthy and ready to go. I’d be fine with managing Rittich starts in the light of smith playing well, but 7 of 9 clearly signals that they have decided that Smith is the no 1 again and that shouldn’t be acceptable to fans. Hopefully they wake up in the morning and realize that they’re making a mistake but who knows. I hope Rittich doesn’t lose the magic he has had for most the season but stuff like this can be pretty damaging to a young goalies confidence.
