Conroy: Flames won't address goaltending ahead of trade deadline
not really a surprise.
other than grass is greener on the other side, not really a whole lot available that is a clear upgrade on Smith or Rittich
Ryan Leslie @ryanleslie73
Just spoke with Craig Conroy who said the #Flames are happy with their goaltenders and won’t be targeting that position ahead of the deadline.

I'm really hoping Rittich is rock solid tonight.
He's the teams best chance to do some damage in the playoffs.
I thought Smith looked more like the first half of last season against Anaheim than in almost any game this season, but I'm far from assuming that guy is back to stay.

Good, roll with what we've got. Would be a bad idea to mess with it now. Might just have to put up 6 some nights, but we can do it.

Im fine with this. Tending is my biggest concern but I dont see very good options out there. Roll with your guys this year and make a decision in the off season.

Nothing. Anyone they could get is a lateral move at best. If they want to upgrade significantly, the only time to do that is the summer.

agreed... at this point the goalie acquired would have many of the same issues... occasionally very good, but also gives up some meh goals... which is basically what we are currently dealing with.
better to roll with Rittich and Smith and hope one of them recover prior form...just have to hope neither gets dinged up as going with Gillies as the back up is a bit alarming.
With the expansion draft in the near future, if Rittich doesn't work out, there's still a chance of addressing goaltending at a later date...Domingue is a guy i'd keep an eye on

ANd if it doesnt work out, hopefully they dont blow all their assets on a forward now so they can address the G issue at the draft.

Well, we roll into war with what we got. Was hoping for at least an insurance market like Forsberg at the very least. Having a 3 headed monster when both your goalies have had very bi polar stretches can only be a good thing.
That being said, the night and day difference between pre asg break and post asg break Mike Smith makes me think he was in a team controlled co servation mode. Dude looks to be on track to his early first year performance.

I'd be intrigued trying to get Talbot from Philadelphia.
From this list… could roll the dice on:
Quick
Mcbackup
And I really like the option looking at Ryan Miller as insurance.

I guess the market for goalies is just nonexistent at the moment.
It's too bad, because if/when the Flames get eliminated, goaltending will probably be the reason why (this is the case for most teams).

Miller has already indicated he won't waive to go anywhere but SJ apparently.
McElhenney is a major reason the Canes are in a playoff spot, he is going no where.
Just goes to show how hard it is to trade for G's of any substance during a season.

With Smith playing so well, it became abundantly clear that the team was no longer in desperation mode to get an NHL body as the backup.
If Smith didn't do as he has been, then that would have changed the metrics on what needed to be done. Over the past couple weeks, he has looked as good as he has ever in a Flames jersey.
Also, sitting Rittich was also a good thing as he needed to tweak things in his game and playing every couple days is not the best way to do that. Having time to work on those outside of game situations is important. Look at all the adjustments Smith has made as the season has gone along. Rittich also looked good after Smith had his good stretch at the end of November. I'm expecting the same moving forward.

This is what worries me. Goaltending is the team's biggest need and it's where management has to leave no stone unturned in the offseason and it would be wise to ensure the team has assets to be able to make a move at the draft.
