But Nickleback sucks so don't listen to them. Try The Weakerthans.

I being an idiot decided to pick up the new Nickelback disc because it was only ten bucks, but I have come to find out that I cannot even get the songs onto my iPod because of some stupid copy protection. You think Best Buy will accept an opened CD for a refund?

Likely not, but this link may help you find a solution. I almost feel bad for trying to help people hear Nickelback.

I'm not a Nickelback fan but I do not understand why people think its so cool to hate them. What has Nickelback done to deserve SO much hate? Is it because they're rich?

I think it's because they fit into the mold of the type of rock band that is so common out there right now. They definetely aren't my favorite band, but I don't hate them. They actually put on a great live show.

It's a Canadian thing obviously

3 years ago everyone loved them. "Ah man, this band is great, they're doing so well in the States, good for them! Good boys from Hannah."

Years Later Canadian mentality sets in...

"Oh man, these guys are shinguarde. What a bunch of sell-outs! I'm so embarassed that they're from Canada!"

Oh, and their music being absolutely terrible may play a role in things.

Because Chad Kroeger is a egotistical idiot. There are countless accounts of him being a self interested goof. Seriously, this band sucks don't support them.

A friend of a friend out here in Vancouver had a succesful band and was invited out to Toronto to Chad's recording studio to do some demons. This guy I know was a jack off kind of jerky but funny guy who didn't take himself seriously but loved to tease and all that. So apparently they were in the recording studio and Kroeger walks in and this guy I know runs over and grabs him and says "Hey I'll give you a pile driver!"

He was just fudging around. Remember this is a metal band and a metal head lead singer. Chad left and about 15 minutes later Chad's manager/flunkie walks in and says that Chad wants him off his property and never wants to see his face again.

Personally, I like Nickleback.

Yes their music fits the stereotypical mold

Yes Kroeger is an idiot (I dunno if I want some random person saying they want to pile drive me on my property either... but I'd be nice enough to say anything to his face, LOL)

Yes "This is How You Remind Me" and "Someday" are the same song with different lyrics

BUT

I don't put the thought and analysis into bands like most people do. To me it's about the song and not who sings it.

I say to each their own, I like some songs that are fun, cheesey, and just plain bad because I like the reaction of when they get played.

Nickleback aren't going to revolutionize the way we think through music but they're there and the songs are catchy.

So a guy that doesn't know Chad runs up to him and says he is going to give him a pile driver, and Chad doesn't appreciate it? Wow, there's a shocker!

I'm not a huge fan, but I certainly don't hate them.

I find it funny how everyone can go from loving them to hating them so quickly. When Silverside Up first came out they were one of the most popular bands in North America. You always heard their music being played, and generally folks couldn't get enough of them. Then, out comes The Long Road. Same style of catchy music, nothing overly new or dramatic. But, everyone suddenly hates them. Why I simply can't figure out. Is it infact because they "fit the sterotypical Canadian band" mold? Even if it is, I don't see that as a valid reason for hating them so much... They put out catchy music and have never done anything worthy of actually being disliked. And so what if Chad is an ass? There are so many rockstars that are complete jerk offs, but people still love their music... Lars from Metallica is a total dink, but you don't hear people saying Metallica is a bunch of trash and they hate them, do you? (well, maybe their newer stuff) Or to get into newer music a little bit... Bert, the singer of The Used, he's one of the biggest ******* you could ever meet, but their fanbase is absolutely huge these days.

And yes, I do have their new CD. It was cheap, so I thought "why not?".

From what I can gather the hate started from within the music business and eventually spread everywhere. The initial hate was based souly on jealousy IMO. I don't understand the whole "Nickelback Sucks" thing. They are probably the best band in the world at what they do. It's not for everyone (including me) but Chad sure as hell knows what he's doing. If they were that bad they would have fell off the face of the earth after How You Remind Me. They could quite possibly have the biggest Rock Song of 2005.

I don't know about the canadian jealousy theory. I think it has more to do with the redundancy of their music. Sure, we've all heard that internet thing with two songs out of two speakers. Yes, it's the same song.
My personal dislike for Nickleback comes from some kind of rebellion I went through a few years ago. Gerry Forbes p*ssed me off with a child molestation parody song, Puddle of Mudd, Staind & Nickleback all came out with the same song at the same time, and I snapped. I simply gave up on popular music & today's music.
At the tender age of 26, I've resigned myself to keeping up with the artists I like and talk radio.
Nickleback helped put me there.

Anyone ever see that video of this Portuguese crowd throwing rocks at Nickelback in their opening song.

Man that was funny. To the people that like Nickelback, I understand you like their simple redundant sound, and that's totally cool. But what I'll throw out there is that there are so many hundreds of bands out there which are way better than Nickelback. Why waste your time on corporate crap rock?

Most people who hate Nickelback, didn't like them 3 years ago. Like myself, they have always hated them. The reason i hate them is becuase they make really generic music that sounds exactly like every other crappy band on the radio.
It bothers me that mainstream music exposes so many bands like them, when there are far more innovative and talented bands who get no play.

Having said that, Nickelback does get alot more hate then other bands who also deserve it. I will admit, I am quicker to insult Nickelback, then other equally crap bands. I think this is because they have become the face of that sort of sound. When I say I hate Nickelback, I really mean I hate Nickelbacks 1 through 10.(Whatever they are all called)

I did meet the band and host an autograph session of theirs a few years ago before they were huge, and they seemed like nice people. I don't hate them as people, and would never support throwing rocks at any band, but I hate their music.

Chad Kroeger pretty much produced and wrote most of Default and Theory of a Deadman's songs. While catchy, bands like Nickelback and their ilk saturated the "soft rock" market into what it is today.

I tend to find indie groups are crappy and not popular in mainstream for good reasons. I also find many, not all, people seem to like these types of groups because it is "cool" to like them. Not saying that is the case with people here but I do get tired of hearing people be condescending and act like they are better then me because they like some band that has only sold 20 records and I like a mainstream group.

Me too. Sometimes I happen across CJSW 90.9 & hear something worth listening to. fudge, sometimes the station stays on for a good hour. While I'm terrible at remembering band names (or even bothering to listen for the band names), it amazes me that I come across these gems from time to time on CJSW & never actually hear them played on CJAY or whatever when I take a gander down to the pub.
Obviously I'm in the minority as far as CJAY hating is concerned, but who are you people who actually like hearing the same forkin song over & over? What's that you say? It's a different artist? IT'S THE SAME SONG!
