Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper in Saudi Arabia is arguably the Arab world's largest and most influential newspaper in that part of the world.

It's managing editor yesterday, in his daily column under a headline, "The Painful Truth: All the World Terrorists are Muslims!" had this to say about the aftermath of the hostage situation in Russia:

"Our terrorist sons are an end-product of our corrupted culture."

"Most perpetrators of suicide operations in buses, schools and residential buildings around the world for the past 10 years have been Muslims."

Muslims, he said, will be unable to cleanse their image unless "we admit the scandalous facts," rather than offer condemnations or justifications.

"The picture is humiliating, painful and harsh for all of us."

Other reaction in this story, including one "scholar" who said the Israeli's were behind the Beslan attacks to make Muslims look bad:

Another Arab newspaper, Arab News in Cairo, said:

" . . . . the Chechens, with the choice of their targets, had put themselves in a position where no one would shed tears when the punishment came. They reached a new low when they chose toddlers as bargaining chips."

no question, the terrorist infrastructure left by much arab money is giving a lot of people headaches, not the least of which is many arabs themselves...

the disarming of lebanese christian terrorist organizations over the last ten years left a big media coverage hole for muslim terrorism to fill as well.

the sabra and chatila massacre for example, has got to rank right up near nazi-level war crimes, but it was one headline of 2000 deaths and not hundreds of headlines of less than a dozen deaths.

as for the 'scholar' arab media in general has to be taken with a huge cow-brick of salt, it is a cultural thing - very inflammatory. i've lived with two arabs for a combined year and a half, and they weren't big-money-kids sent here to go to school. the arab youth it seems to me is quite skeptical of both its leadership and its government media, saudi arabia for example has quite an underground youth culture.

what was that line from 'control room, something like, 'if an electrical device breaks down in downtown damascus, it is an israeli conspiracy!'

I still can't believe an Islamic leader would have the stupidity to say these are not Islamic killings they instead are done by Irsaeli's trying to tarnish the Muslim image. Sorry buddy I think that image was tarnsih a long time ago! Try beheadings and unnessary murders evey week. killing fathers and people coming to try and rebulid a city in turmoil. That's just a start. It takes killing innocent children to make many leaders take a second look. it baffles me to think there are some out there that just can't see it for what it is.

Calgaryred,

i agree with the sentiment of your post.

murder is murder, no matter the motive.

but just remember which regimes are responsible for public beheadings and which regimes are supported blank-cheque style by the united states...

which regimes are secular in nature and which are religious...

with the exception of iran the results may surprise!
