Why? There's a tiny area he can put the puck in that situation that would result in a goal, and it's right under the crossbar.
Him hitting the goalie in the chest likely isn't more beneficial, so I have no problem with him trying to get that in under the bar and missing.

I like that play by Larkin, pretend the puck is loose behind the goalie to see if he'll start moving around and set the puck free. I'm surprised more players don't pull that trick.
