It's a New Years Extravaganza - The First place Flames host the not-too-far-behind Sharks in the last game of 2018! The Flames look to get back into the win column following Saturday's setback against the Canucks.

This game's on SN1, but viewers in the East, Ontario and Pacific can catch it on their networks too.

Not a lot of news this morning. Lineups are courtesy of www.dailyfaceoff.com, and subject to change:

FLAMES

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Neal
Bennett - Jankowski - Czarnik
Dube - Ryan - Hathaway

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson

Rittich

SHARKS

Radil - Couture - Meier
Sorensen - Thornton - Pavelski
Kane - Hertl - Labanc
Donskoi - Goodrow - M Karlsson

Vlasic - Braun
Simek - Burns
Ryan - Dillon

Jones

There'll be lots of partying and carrying on this evening. And naturally there'll be fireworks too. Nobody loves explosions more than That Darn Puppet, and he seeks to start off 2019 in his own inimitable fashion:

Spoiler!

Go Flames

This will be a tough one. It's been a few games since we've seen a full 60 minute effort, and they'll definitely need one tonight if they want to hang onto the division lead. Sharks have been on a roll lately.

Neal is scoring tonight. You heard it here first.

Unless he doesn't score in which case you misheard me. GFG!

I'd imagine Frolik will be in for Czarnik today.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Sometime soon someone will be right...eventually...maybe.

The Sharks forward depth is as deep as any in the NHL. Where they are lacking is the top-end skill (now that Thornton has slipped a bit). That posted lineup is very balanced, but it is also a pretty mediocre top 6.

Important game. Team really hasn't been playing great lately and the Winnipeg result was a little flattering. A solid W tonight would put things right on track.

Keep 2 guys on Kane at all times.* No repeats of his performance last season please.

* Not really, but you get the idea

I like that lineup a lot. Hope the 3M line can get Chucky going, he's been very quiet lately.

Agent did his job. It's either showcase time or Peters is gifting him ice time to quell the publicity.

That being said, Jankos not struggling nearly as much as he was when last we seen that line together so this could bode well for 3rd line production.

I don't think it has anything to do with it...they lost last game, I assumed he would be coming back into the lineup.
