congratulations Chris Wideman. From Ottawa to Edmonton to sunny Florida ... not bad.

Petrovic had not been happy in Florida. Wait til you get a load of Greaserville.

Good news with this trade is that Chia is still employed and making trades!

Don't know much about the players but I think I'm safe in predicting that Chia overpaid for a crappy player.

Alexander Petrovic Bio from NHL.com
A punishing hitter in the corners and around the net, the 6-foot-4, 206-pound Petrovic also moves the puck efficiently and can deliver a heavy slap shot. On Feb. 9, 2016, he put all those skills together for the Florida Panthers.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native scored a goal, had an assist and engaged in three fights with Evander Kane of the Buffalo Sabres during a 7-4 win in which Petrovic had season highs in penalty minutes (29), points (two) and rating (plus-4).

6'4 -> good size. Does he have any mobility? 1 point in 26 games this season.

I remember Petrovic fought Evandro Kane 3x in a single game a few years ago. Bottom pairing D for fringe NHLer and a pick

So...

-He’s from Edmonton
-Was on the good side of a 7-4 drubbing once

Checks all the boxes!

Florida fans are extremely happy that he's gone and happier that they got something for him. The words that they're using to describe him, imobile, positionally terrible, stay at home defenseman because he should stay at home.

He's also an upcoming UFA which means the Oilers spend a 3rd for what might be no asset.

Edmonton has little in the way of good puck moving defensemen and they stack the deck with another not puck moving slow defensemen.

This is Chia being a buyer because he wants to save his job.

Oh and the third round pick is the higher of the two 3rd rounders that the Oilers have between the Islanders and theirs, so this could end up being a second round pick.

Do not understand this trade from the Oilers perspective. Trading relatively high draft picks for a bottom pairing UFA d man? Petrovic won't get you into the playoffs.

I don't get this deal for the Oilers. Worst part is a high 3rd round pick for a UFA.

Good to see Chia is still allowed to make deals, the rest of the league is happy.

Lost all three fights too so at least he's used to that part.
