I really liked Derek Ryan’s game in this one.

Neal was a beast tonight, did everything but score.

That whole 3rd line was really good.

Can we end the Lomberg-Hathaway experiment?

Frolik should be back soon. He can take that spot on the 4th line

Yep Lomberg just not an NHLer. Pretty good wheels without the puck, but as soon as he gets it he just slows right down. Hopefully we see Czarnik on Tuesday for him.

Game was closer than it should have been.

Crawford’s glove was on fire. His save that was over the line and became a goal was an amazing effort.

So many other saves and he was the best player on the ice. Except for one very notable save by the other guy..

Smith’s save with about 5 minutes to go was fantastic. He definitely intended to do it, was bloody lucky that it hit his foot, but his foot was where it needed to be.

(Otherwise Smith had what I saw as a pretty average game. Kane’s early breakaway, he stayed outside the hash marks and put it in Smith’s pad. So not as great as some people thought. Toews made a great move to come cross crease, so not as weak as some people thought. Anisimov shoveled an almost breakaway into the crook of his pad. He made a nice save I thought on a feed from Kane to Toews on a PP. So he generally stopped what he should have, except the belly flop ankle save.)

Full marks on the belly flop ankle save. He attempted to make a desperation save and was successful.

Should be on all the highlight reels

I didn't mind Lomberg on the fourth line. I think Czarnik needs to learn a little bit from him about effort and compete level, frankly. Though the player Czarnik really needs to pay attention to is Mangiapane. He had better chances in one game than I can recall Czarnik having lately.

Agreed. One at most in the lineup as a gritty puck pursuit player. Two on a line makes it hard to score.
I would demote Lomberg to pressbox until Frolik back, then AHL, only bringing Lomberg back in if you want to roll Czarnik on the right and bench Hathaway.
Then when Frolik is fit, roll a Frolik/Mangiapane - Jankowski - Czarnik 4th line, unless you need a more "on the body" player in certain matchups (Anaheim, LA, etc.)

The great thing about depth is that you can rotate in the 4th liners - that keeps them all hungry.
