#Flames are on the ice early today, about 10 minutes. Majority of players have trickled out of the dressing room. Smith/Rittich working with Sigalet and Tkachuk is also helping shoot on them.

No screaming, no yelling, no pouting to report as of yet.

Interesting, but perhaps predictable, that it seems very business as usual today.

Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Was interesting to chat w Matthew Tkachuk after the 9-1 loss. One game earlier he called their effort “embarrassing” so I expected him to be even more incensed. Instead, he was calm and measured. No doubt a leadership move with an eye on not piling on to the obvious outcry.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames at practice today:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett
Tkachuk-Backlund-Czarnik
Dube-Lindholm-Neal
Hathaway-Ryan-Frolik
Jankowski

Giordano-Brodie
Hanifin-Hamonic
Valimaki-Andersson
Prout-Stone

I hope they leave Czarnik on that 2nd line for a few games. Great speed and some untapped offensive potential.

Other than that I don’t really care what the lines are, Peters just needs to drill it into everbody’s heads that if they continue to forget about team defense this team won’t be making the playoffs. Pretty simple.

Anderson and Franklin reports seem to indicate that the Valimaki-Andersson pairing is the 4th pair.

Interesting to see Bennett working his way up the lines. Good for him.

I think Bennett and Tkachuk have been our two most consistent forwards this season. They may struggle to execute at times, but at least the effort is there - which can’t be said for the other forwards on this team. Definitely happy to see Bennett earning more minutes.

It’s been really disappointing to see Gaudreau, Monahan, and Backlund just going through the motions as of late. They’re way too important to this team to not be fully invested every night.

Ok, one more time for the fans at the back...

#Flames lines:
Gaudreau-Monahan-Bennett
Tkachuk-Backlund-Czarnik (but Hathaway's taken his spot because he left with a bleeding nose)
Dube-Lindholm-Neal
Frolik-Jankowski-Ryan

you'd think maybe this sigalet guy would start feeling a bit of heat after developing exactly zero NHL calibre goalies so far as our goalie coach.

Good to see Peters shaking the lines up. Hopefully Bennett on top line can get Mony involved in the game a little more, and he can provide a little physicality to protect johnny.

Not surprised to see janko back out of the lines, he was horrible yesterday.

Hmm that would be weird to me.

Andersson comes completely out of the lineup after being bumped up to pairing one.

Feels like if anybody takes a turn to sit it's Stone.

Also feel like then moving Lindholm off the first line means that line is going to be sheltered more again. Think they attempted Lindholm there in an effort to give that line a little bit of a tougher match up, didn't work, so now they are separated.

Good to have some muscle on that line. Plus Bennett can skate and drive to the net and muck it up in front of the goalie.

Disagree grouping Backlund with those other two. It's pretty clear he has a hand injury on the ice, and Boomer mentioned him not shaking hands with people with his right hand at the event last week. Even then his line was the only good line in the defensive zone against Montreal and had rougher nights against New York and Pittsburgh but when you get 100% tough match ups like him you're going to have the odd tough night.

Gaudreau and Monahan on the other hand...

Monahan especially needs to wake up and remember that when you play center you need to actually play responsibly in both the offensive and defensive zone.

Fortunately the Flames are in the worst division in the league. By a lot.
The 6th place team in the Central would be 1st in the Pacific.

Any hints on who is starting in net?

I was at the game last night. The biggest take away for me was the body language of Smith. When he is going well, there is swagger. Last night, to me, he just looked completely defeated with no confidence. When he skated to the bench he looked like my dog, peering through the back door during a rain storm: "Please, please get me out of here."

Whatever happened to the good old fashioned bag skate??! No pucks or sticks (maybe some extra ankle weights), touch each line and back, skate laps, UNTIL YOU PUKE!

"Hey guys, you really sucked the last three games and last night's 9-1 score really flattered you, so I guess it'll be business as usual, standard practice with a little shuffling, Keep calm and carry on."

It's all in the attitude - GAF in practice and maybe you'll GAF in the game.

Isn't this where some vet grabs some entitled kid by the collar and forcibly says "get with the program"?

Or at least have one FU scuffle/fight during practice?

I swear my dog had more balls after we got him fixed.
