Good writeup. I agree that the effort was better than the prior two games, but it still wasn't where it needed to be.
The Flames can at least control which team will work harder on any given night, so it's probably time to start there and see what happens.

Generally good.
I take exception to the “Rittich didn’t do much better”
That’s a stats first comment.
If you watched the goals he let in, no frickin’ chance on any. It was silly.
There should perhaps be questions about Peters too. It’s 10 games and as this team should be starting to show something it has gotten steadily worse over the past few games to look like the stretch run Gully team. But, you know, injury free.

I was at the game, and would rather have spent night having a root canal.
The GAF level of the team is deplorable.
Rittich was way, way better than Smith.
The net is his as long as he wants it.
Peters putting Bennett in as 1C is the biggest wave of the white flag as I've seen in the 10 years I've been in Calgary.
The last three games.... What a joke. This team should be much better than this. I really don't get it.

With all due respect, Brent Sutter 5 D on the PP knows no parallel as far as white flags go

How can such a big goalie make himself so small?

With all due respect, this team is far better than the one Brent was dealing with.

Also..it looks like trading Dougie Hamilton wasn't such a good idea.

I was actually going to mention something like this. Not saying it was necessarily a bad idea but at the same time we broke up what some said was the best D pairing in hockey and now it might be a sobering moment to realize we have taken a big step back on the top pair.

I still am good with the trade.
The question the organization should be asking itself is whether they mishandled Hamilton from the start.

Oh yeah, that guy had a fire in his belly that would have stopped 8 goals, even though they were evenly spread out.
The Flames has their ass handed to them tonight. Much like they did many times with Dougie.

The core is all soft except Tkachuk. Thats the problem not enough high intensity in your face talent here.

One thing that should be getting more attention is the special teams.
Good teams have over 100% combined PP and PK. with 14.6% and 72.2% respectively, that gives the Flames a combined 86.8. so far thats a step back from last season. Its early and lots of time to fix the special teams but we need to see some results soon.

I think Peters should put the lines in a blender to start next game. Johnny and Monny aren't getting it done; their GAF factor is non-existent. Neal is clearly unhappy with third line duty though he will never say it. The talent they have in the top 9 is good, it just needs a spark.
I think our D core sucks ass though. Brodie has regressed to absolute garbage, Stone is an overpaid Adam Pardy, Andersson is soft, I don't even notice Hanafin on the ice unless he's giving the puck away, Hamonic hasn't worked out as we ad hoped and Gio, well...he's the Captain? I didn't see him displaying much fire at all last night.
I don't get to see too many games at the 'Dome and watching that dumpster fire of an effort last night still irks me. Peters needs to figure out how to motivate this team, and he needs to figure it out fast.

So don't bring in his brother? That was a pretty big effort to make a guy feel welcome.
If he didn't fit in he didn't fit in.
He arrived with that sticker and left with the same label.

Just last month people on CP were boasting about how bad Tre fleeced the Canes in that trade. . .

Yup and I would strongly suggest that it is far too early to declare it a fleecing or a mistake.
It is a deal that will play out over years.
I do struggle why anyone thinks that Hamilton would somehow have solved what is ailing the Flames right now though. When I look at the team I see a very leaky team defensively and he wasn't exactly steady eddy back there.

I think people focusing on Hamilton, the trade, Smith ... all have it wrong.
The team is broken in what they are giving up. Until they fix that this is going to continue to slide.
Peters has a track record of not getting his teams run over, he knows what's wrong, but he can't seem to get them on the same page to date to execute.
It will happen, but they'd better not waste too much more time.

The bolded part is concerning - it never did happen in Carolina so we only hope it will happen here. That was the big risk with hiring him over a more proven coach with success at the NHL level...

My sense is we have a country club atmosphere in Calgary.
A bunch of gazillionaires happy to show up for work, have some fun together and get paid big time.
Outside of MT do we have any hate to lose types?
