Senators Fall to the Bruins.....

Disappointing start to the Season. The Bruins are always tough to play and they showed why tonight.

Senators blew a 2-0 lead and allow the next 6 goals. The coach was furious with the effort tonight. having been read the Riot act by the coach the Senators prepair for the Blues tomorrow.

Theodore shuts the door on the Habs

Jose Theodore had something to prove on on friday night against his former team and he made a statement. Theodore outduelled Nikolai Khabibulan the goalie he was traded for in a blockbuster earlier this summer. Theodore was given the first star for his 30 save effort. Chris Therien and Tuomo Ruutu lead the Pens attack with 2 assists each while Peter Forsberg picked up an assist in his first game in a Pens Uniform. The Pens find themselves in the opposite position they finished last season, with 2 wins the Pens are the first team to reach the 4 point mark, and stand atop the league standings. Next up for the Pens a a matchup for top spot against the powerhouse Bruins.

Leafs lose home opener.

The game wasn't as close as the 5-3 score due to a huge 2nd period from the Canes... thank you Roman Cechmanek.

The negatives? Goaltending, it must improve if the team is going to be competative each game. Hitting, the Leafs need more physical play from the forwards.

On a positive note, 2 points for Bates Battaglia and a goal from Andrei KosT**syn are good signs that these players can contribute on the top lines this season. The Leafs look to regroup on Saturday against the Fishsticks and have changed the lineup to provide a more physical presence on the 2nd line, which was outplayed on Friday night in Toronto.

Yeah I said something and changed my mind, I'll post something later. But really, the score speaks for itself. Bruins are awesome. Holzinger rocks. Eggs over-easy, shedded hashbrowns, sourdough toast and ummm....I think bacon today. Thanks.

SABRES SECOND LINE SPARKS WIN IN SEASON OPENER
Newcomer Scott Gomez gets 4 points in official Sabres debut

Sabres 4 Flyers 1

The Buffalo Sabres made a point of retooling their top 2 lines in anticipation of the new season. This, along with goaltending, is said to be the strength of the team. While the teams top line of Morrow and the CPHLs last 2 scoring champs Prospal and Palffy was quiet, the teams 2nd line of Daze, Fedotenko and Scott Gomez was on fire, figuring in one way or another on all 4 team goals. Second line centre Scott Gomez picked up four assists. Andrew Ference also had a strong game.

The Sabres bottom 2 lines held their own, but did not score. loooooob is still trying to figure out how to shuffle Pahlsson, Isbister, Miller, Nilsson, Ritchie and Hahl to best effect.

The Sabres played a disciplined game without team captain Wade Belak, never playing shorthanded.

Tomorrow night the Sabres face off against the tough Florida Panthers.

SABRE RATTLES

There was a downside to tonight's game. Ziggy Palffy, despite having the lines stacked in his favour, did not figure on the teams first goal, thereby costing the team some valuable sponsorship money. The AHL Rochester Americans won HUGE in their opening game.

1. SABRES, FEDOTENKO 1 (GOMEZ, FERENCE), 07:42
2. SABRES, FEDOTENKO 2 (GOMEZ, DAZE), 11:49

3. SABRES, PALFFY 1 (GOMEZ, VISNOVSKY) (PP), 10:20
5. SABRES, FERENCE 1 (GOMEZ, FEDOTENKO), 01:19
