Man dies after altercation with border officers at Calgary airport

“While attempting to remove a foreign national from Canada, an altercation took place between the individual and the two CBSA officers,” said Nina Patel, CBSA’s Prairie acting regional director general, in a news release Wednesday. “The individual went into medical distress and was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”

EMS confirmed they were called to the airport just after 3 p.m and the man was still on the aircraft when they arrived.

On Facebook, someone posted that they were on the KLM flight to Amsterdam that this happened on. Apparently he was escorted onto the plane by CBSA and then became agitated and combative, and then it appeared that he had a heart attack.

So he arrived in Canada, presumably that same day, then was refused entry and was forced onto the outbound KLM flight to Holland?

No, he was being deported, not refused entry. I believe on the news they said he had been in Canada for several years.
