Icon48 Who are your favourite non-Flames?

Who are some of your favourite players to watch, aside from guys like Johnny and Monahan? Who are the guys from around the league who really catch your eye?

For me, my favourite non-Flame is Evgeni Malkin. Honestly, I see him as the very best player in hockey when he's on his game, and even when he's not, he's still incredible. He's kinda (and I mean kinda) like a forward equivalent of Dougie Hamilton, in that he can take some dumb penalties but still wow you offensively. However, unlike Dougie, Malkin has the ability to turn into an absolute monster in high-pressure situations, throwing his weight around and uncorking pulchritudinous moves at full speed. People talk about Connor McDavid's ability to take over games -- and he can -- but Malkin can mess you up while he does it, almost in an Iginla-type fashion (although no superstar today can fight like Iginla could.) In my mind, the omission of Malkin from the NHL's Top 100 list last year was just as much of a travesty as leaving off Iginla and Joe Thornton. It's a shame that he is forced to operate so much in the shadow of Sidney Crosby because we all saw what he could do when Sid was rendered out of commission by concussions. When Geno is angry, he's on top of his game, and when he's on top of his game, he's absolutely unstoppable.

Seriously, look at this guy.

The first guy that came to my mind was Patrick Kane. Unreal skill. Fun to watch.

Maybe it’s from growing up with Fleury, but I love the little pests: Gallager, Marchant...

Brent Burns and Subban are both exciting players and seem like great people off the ice.

I suspect Brady Tkachuk will be a favorite.

Wayne Simmonds probably.

Gostisbehere, Kucherov and Aho are extremely fun players to watch too. Always liked Bergeron as well.

Kopitar. It was amazing during the World Cup a few years back, those two final games between Canada and Europe, it seemed like Kopitar played half an hour both games. That was one of the most incredible individual efforts I've ever seen, even in a losing cause. He was just completely gassed by the end after doing everything he possibly could to stave off the inevitable. So awesome.

Getzlaf. I should hate him as a Flames fan, and I try, but there's no denying he's pretty close to the total package.

For me it was always Joe Sakic, he just did so many things well.

Doesn't jump to mind as a flashy player, but very rarely made the wrong decision.

Joe Thornton because I grew up with him and his brothers. Absolutely fantastic guy who will do anything for his friends and family, will be a shame like Iggy if he never gets a SC.

Love watching Crosby, really amazing player and nobody is at his level yet.

Subban is a favorite and I love watching him skate through the neutral zone carrying the puck.

Dustin Byfuglien. When he's "good buff" he dominates a game the way few others can. He's fast, skilled with his hands and huge. It's like watching a buffalo on skates that can deke.
