Default Converting Cassette tape to digital

Hey good CP folks.
I need to transfer an old audio tape to a digital format. I’ve found a few places that do it, but some of them are pretty pricey and I only need to convert like 2 minutes of audio.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

How good do you need quality of the audio to be? If it’s only 2 mins you might want to consider just using voice memo or a similar app to re-record it from the source.

Depends on your equipment. Obviously you'll need some kind of cassette player. If you have one with a line level output (i.e. is meant to be hooked up to a separate amplifier) then you can just plug it into a computer's audio input and use any free recording software to record it.

If you only have something with a headphone jack it can still work but the quality will likely suffer a bit. Just make sure the levels are good and you're not getting a bunch of distortion.

If your computer doesn't have an audio input you can either borrow one that does (most desktops should have that and any Mac will have one) or you can buy or borrow a USB audio interface, but that's probably not necessary to record a couple of minutes of audio one time.

Lots of ways. But you will need a working cassette deck for all of them. Do you have one that's working? If so, PM me, I will explain what to do next. If not, you should give it to a conversion service people, there is a few of them around in Chinatown and 17th Ave SE shops.

Thanks!

I ripped a bunch of old cassettes to my PC using Audacity along with the line-in already mentioned. Time consuming, but it was worthwhile. Good luck!

Kind of related to old technology, for both my parents 50th anniversary I bought a Vevo slide converter and converted all their slides to jpgs. They had about 4,500 slides so it took a long time but it was worth the trip down memory lane. It was kind of funny when I gave them a SD card with about 20 years of pictures on it.
If you ever need to convert VHS movies just take it to Costco as it costs about $25. Way cheaper than cables and software you need to buy to do it on your own. Plus you need to find a VHS machine.
