Default Small-claims court

Anyone here ever used it or have advice for someone needing to sue through this process? How does it work? Cost? The claimant probably pays to file and both parties appear before a judge who issues a judgement? How do you file?

I just use this guy with a company called Usue. He's hilarious but really quite good. I'm 5 for 5 with him. He charges $500 plus court costs but those get tacked on to your judgement usually. You might be able to figure out a way to "pad your stats" for the $500 if so inclined. I was sort of overwhelmed trying to do it myself but I'm not patient or smart. These are usually pretty cut and dry cases without a great deal of evidence required so you will likely have an easy time winning.

How have you done collecting the judgements?

I'm pretty bad at it. But once in a while I get a check from the court system when one of them gets sued by someone else or declares bankruptcy. Sometimes I don't really know why the court sends me their money but I'll take it.

I always do a property search and register on anything they own. Once in a while I get a check from the sale of an old junker or a sweet camper. If they have valuable stuff you can seize it. I snagged an Escalade once and a D9 Cat. The Giovanni rims on the Escalade were worth more than the rest of the truck. Bailiffs will do that sort of thing for you.

You can garnishee wages but that can be more hassle than it is ultimately worth. Employers are really bad at following the rules on that. There doesn't seem to be much mandating employers follow those rules.

It's kind of ghoulish but I know a couple of them are waiting to inherit houses so I'm kinda just waiting for the reaper.

I think it's still worth doing because I'm registered as a business on their credit reports and I get a surprising number of calls from credit granting institutions asking about the nature of the debt. There's a bit of satisfaction knowing that I can appropriately warn people to stay away.

Should we be expecting to see you on an upcoming episode of Judge Judy?

I don't know why, but suing someone and ending up with a D9 sounds hilariously awesome to me. I have no other reason to own one, but getting it as payment on a debt would be a good reason.

Why are you suing so many people?

I feel like there is thread of the year potential here.

4x4 gets a D9 and uses it to take revenge on traffic strugglers.
