Default Pretty cool article on Gawdin

Quote:
“I think Glenn is a poster boy for the whole league,” noted Viveiros. “He’s been here five years, came in as a 16-year-old, worked real hard.

“He just continued to work real hard and signing with the Calgary Flames, he’s deserved everything he’s got, all the recognition, accolades he’s got. He’s been by far our most valuable player over the last two seasons as long as I’ve been here. We’re very happy to have him and very proud he’s been a member of our organization.”

(PS. Broncs can win the WHL Championship tonight.)

Gawdin was 2nd star and got a pair of goals in a losing effort last night 6-3.
Broncos still lead the best of 7 series 3-2

Thanks for the article. He seems to have a Mark Giordano vibe about him!

Here's to hoping this guy can be our Tyler Johnson, however unlikely.

Very similar junior careers though, production wise.

Speaking with some Broncos fans, and they don't think he has the speed to be an NHL player.

He may never make it but Thomas Vanek is not a great skater either and has carved out a long career for himself. There is some hope.

Speed can be taught and trained into. Having a toolbox can't be.

(I'd rather a Gawdin that needs to be faster than a Matt Lombardi who had nothing else.)

Very intrigued by this guy. He's got only one issue as I see which is that he scores most of his goals getting fed one timer passes and I don't know that he's been developed well on defence .
All of these guys coming out of jr and the ncaa don't really have allot of time spent developing the defensive side of there games and so I hope at a AHL or echl level they get a coach that helps them work on that.

I am a big fan of guys who take their craft seriously and can contribute when and where it's needed.

We have some great pieces coming up and hope we can pair guys up successfully as this seems to be the direction peters is going .

A couple of weeks ago I fired off a question to the head ISS WHL scout asking "Is Gawdin a legit NHL prospect or just another over ager dominating the CHL?" and he replied that Gawdin has excellent hockey IQ and a well above average "nose for the net", over ager or not, but his skating and total body strength are below average for a prospect his age.

Take that as you will but he will be a very interesting player to watch starting in Stockton next season.

If I had to choose id rather have him have the former attributes than the latter, as I feel speed and body strength are far more reachable than understanding the game and how to play smart hockey. Hopefully the flames get lucky and find a diamond in the ruff, would be very helpful.

Gawdin is going to the memorial cup! SC beat Everett tonight to win the series 4-2 and take the WHL title.

For a power forward, he definitely needs to improve his skating.

The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Calgary Flames prospect Glenn Gawdin of the Swift Current Broncos is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 13 scoring five goals and one assist for six points in four games with a plus-minus rating of plus-3.

Gawdin led the Broncos to victory in the Rogers WHL Championship Series hoisting the Ed Chynoweth Cup on home ice following a six-game win over the Everett Silvertips. His performance during the final week included a Game 3 hat-trick on Tuesday night as first star of a 3-2 overtime decision that gave the Broncos a 2-1 series edge. Swift Current would win Game 4 by a 1-0 score on Wednesday, but a two-goal effort from the captain and second star honours in Friday’s Game 5 fell short in the 6-3 setback to Everett. With a chance to wrap things up at home in Sunday’s Game 6, the Broncos delivered a 3-0 win with Gawdin tallying an assist as first star followed by WHL Playoff MVP accolades in the club’s first championship title since 1993. The Broncos have advanced to the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup and hit the ice on Saturday against the QMJHL champion Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

A 21-year-old from Richmond, BC, Gawdin spent his entire five-year WHL career with the Broncos after being selected by the club in the first round of the 2012 Bantam Draft. He led the team in playoff scoring with 32 points in 24 games notching 14 goals and 18 assists after setting career-highs during regular season play with 56 goals and 69 assists for 125 points in 67 games. Gawdin signed an entry-level contract with the Flames as a Free Agent in November, 2017.

Yeah he's so slow his linemates waited forever to feed him passes which he deposited into the net.

I get that were all really knowledgeable enough about hockey that we criticise, condemn and complain and are offended by everything.

I've heard this complaint before about guys on the flames and they have turned out fine.

Who? Monahan, Bartkowski (won fastest skater at the skills comp) Kulak, Harmonic .

I'm sure if Gawdin spends his summers training with the right people like Gary Roberts at Bio steel he'll be just fine.

Just needs a month with Dawn Braid to work on skating. No big deal. Gawdin has good potential just needs to become a better athlete I think. Or should I say elevate his athleticism to the professional level.
