Default Flames Franchise Trade

I’m sitting here enjoying night #1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, watching the Vegas/Kings game, sipping on a whisky and I just asked myself:

“As impressed as I am with Vegas this year and everything they have done, I wouldn’t trade the Flames for their Franchise”.

A strange thing to ask yourself? Perhaps.

This was followed by:

“What Franchise would I want to trade for?”

I stopped thinking at this very moment, picked up my iPhone and started typing words with my swollen whisky thumbs (Grammar and spelling Nazi’s go away) in this very thread.

My question to everyone is:

What Franchises would you trade our beloved Flames for if the City and Logos remain but everything else changes? (Management, coaches, players, picks etc).

I would trade them for at least 16 other franchises

I love the Flames and would keep them, but if I was forced to pick the Jets are a fast/skilled team.

Roster? History? Logos/sweater?

All the above?

The moment I trade this franchise for another is when the Flames win it all, I just know it.

Unlike what seems like a lot of members of this board, the answer is a resounding 'no'. I've been a fan since I could follow hockey at 8 or 9. A lot less people watched and went to games in the early 2000s.

The depressing years amplify the great ones. The young guns era ended in an amazing playoff run in 2004 that was one of my best memories. Another drought ended in another (albeit shorter) cinderella run to the second round in 2015, with another amazing red mile experience.

Even the 'depressing' years have had some great wins, win-streaks, and player performances. We got to watch one of the best players (Iginla) of all time for a long time. Now we have one of the top scorers and entertaining players in the league.

It's not the best franchise, but it's 'mine'.

I love our bunch of under-achieving rascals. Call me crazy but I still think we have a good core of young players that will soon mesh. No trades!

I don't think that's how sport fandom is supposed to work. I accept my petty tribalism -- I wouldn't change them then for any team, regardless of how talented (or not). If you don't like your team, change the which team you follow.

The reason we post on CP is because we are stuck with this franchise for better or (mostly) worse

Sorry are we talking trade the players for players?

There are very few teams I wouldn’t trade our entire team for their entire teams

Most of them.

34 years of being a Flames fan has broken my Fan Bias Generator. I can no longer convince myself that my team is good because it's my team.

Not about a bias
I’m under no illusions that the team has been more bad than good
It’s about the fact it would be lame to try to just switch to entirely new roster

I could never switch for real, man I wish I could sometimes. These buggers have worn me out to be honest.

If I had it in me though, probably Tampa as that roster is stacked, elite and young. The management, coaching, drafting and player development is easily top 2 or 3 in the league if not the best. Centers, wingers, Dmen, goalies, prospect pool.....they have it all.

But I'll be back cheering for the Flames again next year. Glutton for punishment I guess.

I guess I don't really get the question.

There are a lot of franchises with whom I would gladly trade our players/picks/prospects. That is an easy one.

But your team is like your spouse, kids, dog etc. They are yours and you hope for the best for them. There are no options.
