Backpage.com siezed by the FBI

I wonder if this has anything with the anti-sex trafficking bill that came into effect in March. It holds websites and others responsible for any illegal activity that takes place on their site. I know Backpage.com has had money laundering charges in the past but the new law might have been a good way to get at them another way.

I had never heard of Backpage until one day my buddy got some bad news. Someone anonymously sent him a link to the ad that his girlfriend had at that site. Turned out that she was slutting in their bed while he was at work.

I thought they shut that down after an assault or killing in Chestermere?
I have a dim memory of it but can't recall particulars.

A website that hosts customer reviews of sex workers has started blocking Internet users in the United States because of forthcoming changes in US law.
Congress recently passed the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act bill (SESTA), and President Trump is expected to sign it into law. SESTA will make it easier to prosecute websites that host third-party content that promotes or facilitates prostitution, even in cases when the sex workers aren't victims of trafficking.
After Congress approved the bill, Craigslist removed its "Personals" section and Reddit removed some sex-related subreddits. The Erotic Review (TER) has followed suit by blocking any user who appears to be visiting the website from the United States.

I was at a presentation from a police agency where they talked about some of the stuff they have found via Backpage and it's pretty freaking bad. I'm glad they got it shut down, though I'm sure it's a drop in the bucket.
