Former Flame Akim Aliu fired after "after game-incident"
Perhaps of somewhat interest, since it is a former Flame...
Remember Akim Aliu, who had a cop of coffee with the Flames a couple of years ago? Karlskrona HK recruited him two months ago, but after only playing six games with in the SHL, he got sent away (No news on why. I saw him live a couple of times, and he wasn´t THAT bad, perhaps just not as good as the pay check...) to second tier league IK Pantern. Today he got fired from the later, after a game against AIK.
Apparently, after the game, on his way to the dressing room, he started hitting and tearing down furnitures while screaming out profanities in english. The goalie from AIK then asked what he was doing, and Aliu responded with hitting him right in the face.
- I was lucky I still had my mask on, says Erik Källgren to swedish newspaper Expressen.
Pantern has issued a statement on the clubs home page, reffering to an "off-ice incident that we as a club, and our values can´t get behind. Therefore we terminate the contract with immediate effect."

Not sure I agree with your assessment.

For the rookie Mr. Aliu, who refused to strip down and crowd into the bathroom and who later lost four teeth from the Downie crosscheck, the OHL's stand should have sent a defiant message that hazing and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.
But did it? For Mr. Aliu, the answer is no. He wants out as badly as Mr. Downie, the Philadelphia Flyers first-round draft pick who was suspended for five games by the Spitfires and has asked to be traded. According to Mr. Aliu, he sees no future in Windsor and believes little has changed attitude-wise.

He stood up against hazing culture in Jr. hockey, and wasn't backed by his team or league in any real way.
I remember there being talk of a substance abuse issue with Akim as well, though not sure if those have been confirmed one way or the other.

Will never forget his game against the ducks. Was basically a playoff Ferland vs the canucks.

I had almost forgotten what a massive piece of #### Steve Downie is.

Yea that's one side of the story.
Downie is POS as far as I'm concerned but there are rules on hockey teams not to be broken.
Media loves the underdog diversity story but we don't know the full extent here for sure.

What rules are those? Is it the one where you are supposed to let people who are your teammates humiliate you under the garbage "we all had to do it..."?

Yes.
Don't pretend you're better than others rules.

This is ridiculous. Hazing is abuse and should be called out. The fact that you're defending the practice says a lot about you as a person.

I’d hit someone in the face for asking me what I’m doing, too. None of your business.

Yeah, I'm not really sure where you're going with this.
We should stand idle and allow hazing an abusive practice because "it's the rules" and "who are we to question?.
I'm sorry but that's exactly why forms of abuse remain am institutional problem, because not enough people question the status quo.

Hazing is a horrible practice. I've spoken to enough hockey players that had experienced it at various pro levels. Surprisingly, not all of them condemn it though. Those, who were physically bigger and stronger did not experience it too bad, because they would not let others push them beyond fun stuff. Those who were clearly high-level were not hazed as bad by others for the fear of consequences from coaches if a player choose to complain. It's only those who were smaller/weaker/less-talented that experienced the worst of hazing. One guy told me he was literally hung by his armour off the clothes hook in the dressing room after practice and had to stay hanging there until everyone left. He was telling me this while laughing about it. I don't know if I'd have the same reaction...

I remember first hearing about Akim Aliu from Gare Joyce's "Future Greats and Heartbreaks" book. Also had interesting takes on Kessel, Esposito, and Voracek before they were drafted. Made me hopeful when we signed Akim - too bad he couldn't put it together.

I broke my stick on a guy trying to haze me when I was 16. #### hazing culture and the idiots that support it.

Exactly, and too many people joke about it. There's nothing to LOL about on the matter. It is abuse and not different from any other abuse. I was a geek, I wasn't into sport when I was in University, so I didn't experience it personally, but a lot of my friends did and they were bad.

It must suck not being able to champion the removal of a person's personal agency in the spirit of degrading them so that you can get your rocks off because you were also abused in the same manner.
