1st rounder for Hartman? Seems excessive...

A late first, not bad. Wonder why Chicago sold him at that price.

That price is ridiculous. Glad we passed on Hartman.

I don't understand why Chicago does this trade.
Hartman is what I would consider a home-run late 1st round selection... so why trade him for what will be another late 1st round pick? Hope to find another Hartman?

The Preds are stacked. They are the team to beat on the West.

What makes you say this? He's played 2 full seasons. Last year he scored 31 points in 76 games. This year he has 25 points in 57 games. That's not blowing anyone's socks off.

Even if they wanted him, they didn't have the assets to get him.

Because those seasons are better than any our first from 2012 has had (Jankowski) and any 1st the flames have taken outside of the top 10 and outside of Backlund.
Hartman looks like he's improving still too. I would say that's a great 20+ overall pick, and someone you would likely want to keep. Maybe he was looking for an andrew shaw like contract next go around.

Because Ryan Hartman doesn't help them the way they need help. He's good depth but he's not exceptional depth and if they want to resume being Stanley Cup contenders they need exceptional depth. So they traded the good bird in hand for the exceptional bird in the bush.

There are only 2 players (Mantha & Burakovsky) out-producing him, offensively, drafted between 15th and 70th overall that year. You also have to take into account that Hartman has a motor that doesn't quit, and can hit like a truck.
I may be a bit biased in favor of Hartman. I was hoping we'd have taken him with our Klimchuk pick that year.

I think Ejdsell is the key - Chicago pursued him and lost out to Nashville. So they get him (who is as good as a first rounder IMO) and a first rounder (albeit a really late one).
