Default Forsberg suspended 3 games for interference

Nashville’s Filip Forsberg suspended three games for interference on NY Rangers’ Jimmy Vesey. https://t.co/7gTton1szC

Not sure I agree....

With no prior history I don't see how they give three games for that!

To me the fact that it was late and resulted in an injury are clear and unarguable.

The only issue I'm not sure about is the head contact. . . . There definitely was significant head contact, but it was part of a "full body check", which has been used to excuse head contact in other circumstances. However, I'm not sure if head contact as part of a full body check is only OK if the full body check is legal.

If no significant head contact is OK when part of an illegal hit, then the suspension makes sense - Illegal, late hit with significant head contact that resulted in an injury.

Yeah, 3 games seems excessive.

Didn't look like a suspension to me. Forsberg was finishing his check and it didn't look like an intent to injure.

Also I just reactivated Forsberg and dropped Neal in my pool -.-

Elbow to the head seems the worst part of it.

Should’ve been 1-2 games imo, he goes high after the puck was noticeably away from the play. He had eye contact with his head the whole way and didn’t pull back at all. That’s the exact hit they should be getting rid of to avoid concussions. 3 games is excessive because I don’t think Forsberg is a dirty player and don’t remember him being suspended in the past. Some will say he’s finishing his check but his elbow is out and the puck was not close enough imo.

This is what the league wants out of the game.

They finally hand out a harsher punishment for this type of late hit and people are complaining??

I think in cases like this, the Refs should also receive disciplinary action for completely missing the call.

They should be evaluated based on how they perform. I don’t know about discipline for missing calls.

Mike Fisher calls it a joke on his twitter.

Interesting move. He hasn't signed a new contract yet and they can't suspend him for his comment.

Well Jimmy Vesey playing on a last place Ranger team and getting socked in the mouth by a guy on the first place Predators doesn't really garner too much sympathy from me. This is what you and the meddling Rangers wanted....how you like it?

It was a late, high hit with contact to the head.

The player was also injured on the play.

This penalty seems okay to me.

Thread title is misleading by focusing on "interference. He's suspended for a very late, high hit, lets not pretend otherwise.

3 games may be a bit much however.

I don't see it as a high hit, Veesey was leaning down, it is more like hitting someone that is a vulnerable position, and it being like a one second late hit, he probably could have let up. Is it comparable to the Glencross hit on Chris Dury, was interference but Dury like glass with his history, not hit in the head but the jolt was enough to make him drop, I think he got three games.

It looked like they focussed on his eye contact all the way through the play and how he seemed to target. He raises his elbow to make head contact.

I suspect Forsberg thought it was going to look like a more subtle play resembling Tkachuk (and Peter Forsberg’s) “bump back”. Except they usually did it from a standstill and with their whole body.
