Knights 4 Flames 2
- Flames play a solid game but lose a shocker
- Frolik makes a bad call to give up the tying goal
- Many contribute to winning goal
- Team rolls out that effort in the next ten they don't lose many

I know in the past you've talked about stopping these. I'm really glad you still do them. They're my safe place to read another viewpoint without the hate and vitriol.

90 seconds away from a fairly solid, 60 min effort.
Just burns my ass thinking about it all over again.

Missed the game but it sounds like they played with the top team in the league and held the majority of the play, only losing by a mistake with 90 seconds to go. They seem to do everything right but are unable to finish. I am still optimistic about the season, but I'd be happier if Treliving went out and got another scorer, we have enough defense and goalie prospects that hopefully it is doable.

That's why this loss stings so badly for me. Well played game thrown away with under 2 minutes to play.

The noise in the Dome was mostly people talking, it was a boring game. And then the Flames melt down in the last two minutes.
There were quite a few Vegas fans in the stands, surprising for a new team.

Pretty easy to hop on the bandwagon when they come out of the gate as a top team in the league.

Thanks as always.
Unfortunately a hockey game is 60 minutes. Playing well for 58 and being a disaster for 60 seconds is often not good enough. Lapses in concentration, poise, whatever just can't happen if you want to be a regular winner in the NHL.

The play from Frolik was a bad luck brain fart at a terrible moment
The follow-up goal speaks to the mental fragility of the team. Almost every player on the ice played it poorly.
The Frolik play is the ultimate cause, but it is the second goal that is more concerning.
Frolik will probably never do that again.

You are right on the go ahead goal. I watched it again today and it was as if the entire team on the ice was dazed. Basically every player had a chance to do something to disrupt the play, and not one of them did.
It's not as if a late tying goal never happens. Some teams would have gotten mad after something like that.

I think it was how it got scored. The were doing a great job of protecting the lead - to the point that the crowd was cheering. BOOM all of sudden it is in the back of the net and no one knows why.
I think timeouts are over-rated and fans cry for them too much, but I think it is fair to ask why GG didn't take a moment there to make sure his team was calm.
I blame everyone involved on the winning goal - the coach and all 5 players on the ice.
Someone step up and grab control of the situation. Doesn't have to be the coach (but can be).
No one did
Now we find out how this team responds.

Scoring 1 to 2 goals a game isn't going to get them very far.
Either the system needs to be adjusted to provide more offence or it's time to go out and get another goal scorer.

They definitely need to start scoring more goals.
As far as timeouts go, if you use your timeout you can no longer challenge a goal? A friend brought this up to me and if so explains why GG is so hesitant to use his timeouts. Never thought of it from that way before.

You have to have a timeout because if you lose the challenge you lose your time out.
I understand in another thread I may have gotten the Edmonton situation wrong though, if it was an automatic review.

So this explains why GG is never calling a timeout. To keep it for the challenge, which makes better sense.

troutman said it best.
a timeout isn't going to fix what's wrong. Need the 2 points, but at the same token, better to go through this now than in the playoffs.
Mental fragility was a big reason they lost in 4 straight to Anaheim. Well, there's no Elliott to blame this year.
Ultimately for me though it comes down to not being able to score that third goal to put a team away, AGAIN.
