Linden Vey signs in the KHL for 1 year
according to this website:
https://shaiba.kz/news/713967
If true, one less RFA to worry about. Though technically if the Flames give him a qualifying offer while he is signed with the KHL, they will retain his NHL rights until he is 27.

Was never going to stick in the NHL with any sort of purpose. Not really a loss IMO.

I think the guy will be back and be in the NHL.
Likely one of the strangest off ice distractions in the history of the NHL and it's no surprise he's not quite there yet.
One year in the KHL and he'll be back on an NHL roster.
Wish him the best

I'm not that confident about it. Not quite there? At the start of 18/19 he'll be 27 and have shown nothing that suggests he's more than a replacement level player on a bad team.
He may pop up on a budget team or a rebuilding team, but it's not like the off ice distractions derailed a sure-thing. I think he's probably done.

I think qualifying him makes sense. He definitely had some skill especially on the power play.

Makes sense. He isn't an NHL player.
I think he will do well in the KHL, just like Boyd and Dawes.

guy had a tough hand dealt to him...
hoping that he is able to find his game again, but more importantly, even if this is the end of his NHL career, I hope that he is able to find some peace outside of hockey...

Is it really that easy to replace your leading scorer?

IIRC Jankowski is the leader in goals and points. Also we lost our actual leader in scoring from last season in Kenny Agostino. More or less replaced him this season.
There's always players like this that will perform in the AHL when they're given prominent roles without moving up.

Vey had one fewer point in four fewer games (higher p/gp) and was significantly better as a fill-in in the NHL. He's a useful depth player who we should keep

I'm curious what this "significantly better" and "useful depth" is referring to. Unless you're talking about his ability to be a warm body on the 4th line.

Look at the Penguins right now. They're depending on older guys like Carter Rowney and Scott Wilson to be able to contribute in lieu of their injured players, not 18-22-year-olds who are unproven. The Flames need experienced guys like Vey around for this reason

He can join the long list of absolute nobodies who can put up 50+ points in the AHL and is useless in the NHL.
I know you like the Jaffrays of the hockey world, but Vey is as replaceable as they get.
