Good.
This pleases me to no end. One of the most anti-Alberta politicians we've seen in a generation.

What does this mean for Alberta?
From what little I've read about Plante, she is even more left-leaning than Corderre. My initial reaction is that there still will be a hardline stance against Alberta pipelines.

Sure, from a carma perspective. But she'll be worse. Essentially, a Druh Farrell on steroids.

She was also on record as being opposed to Energy East. So no real change there - not that I think that really matters anyway. Denis Coderre didn't kill Energy East whether we want to scapegoat him or not.

Nothing. The federal government were the ones who directed the NEB to consider production and end use GHG emissions in their pipeline calculations, that’s what killed EE.

I don't think the new mayor is a fan of Energy East either.

In Alberta mayors have no decision-making authority. What's the law in Quebec?

I just read that in the Steve Armitage voice and almost spewed water out my nose.

The worst part is - their economy isn't even doing that badly. Coders was crowing about the low unemployment rate in Montreal, and how many cranes were on the skyline, that Montreal was in a period of "unprecedented prosperity". So, when we are in an unprecedented slump, why are we still sending them equalization payments again??

I hope all the worst for that fat ba$tard. First Montreal mayor in history not to win a second term. Please keep in mind that while tubby was a blowhard, its the Federal government, not any provinces or Cities that are responsible for the building or not building of anything that goes across provincial borders.
Dont kid yourselves, QC doesnt care one lick about pipelines when they have a corrupt dairy, syrup, mob, and corruption interests to worry about.
I think the SJWs in Quebec may have also turned on tubby because they wanted this headline "She becomes the first woman to be elected mayor of Montreal." And that may have also had something to do with the BS promises she made durring the election.
But.... we just went through a municipal election and unless the Mayor in Montreal has different powers than that in Calgary, the promise of...
"build a new transit line, alleviate traffic woes and make the city more family friendly" seems like lofty goals for a person with only one vote on council and unless the city wins the "lottery" wont be doing any of those things without new taxes or cutbacks to existing services.
I would be interested to see in 4 years what if any of those "promises" have been kept. My guess is that unless a boat load more inter-provincial transfers go their way, nothing will come of it and tubs would have lost because he wasnt willing to promise to the moon to those stuck on land.
Wait a minute, did I just say something nice about tubby - ugggh.

Sigh.
You aren't sending equalization payments. All taxpayers contribute to the pool. Those 'haves' in Quebec contribute too. Equalization distributes from that pool to geographic regions that are poorer, relatively. The eastern townships of Quebec are as dirt poor as any place in Canada.
How equalization is calculated, or what the provincial government in Quebec does with that money is a more valuable concern.
